- Assists in the operation of high-pressure boilers and plant equipment to provide steam and compressed air to the customer in a safe and efficient manner.
- Inspects, operates and adjusts pumps, turbines and equipment associated with safe plant operations.
- Performs boiler and water treatment analyses, as necessary, to ensure efficient plant operations. Makes adjustments as necessary.
- Performs major repairs and maintenance on boilers and auxiliary equipment to prevent shutdown and ensure proper operation in a safe and efficient manner.
- Cleans and performs minor building maintenance to enhance a safe work environment.
- Trains and instructs new Senior Operating Engineers to convey company policies and procedures.
- Performs other operating functions as needed to ensure uninterrupted operation of the plant.
- Performs other related functions as assigned.
- Dependent on assignment, work schedule may involve rotating shifts (8 or 12 hours) to include some weekends and holidays and/or straight days.
- Overtime can be either voluntary or mandatory. Scheduled overtime is an element of the rotating shift assignment.

Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE: position is the roving watch for the St. Paul Plant, responsible for taking timely rounds on equipment and performing operational functions as needed for safe and reliable operations.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
Qualifications
Education : High school graduate or equivalent. Vo-tech training or equivalent as a boiler operator.
Experience : Three years of work in a large, high pressure steam heating plant or in high pressure boiler operation.
Licenses/Certifications : Second Class B MN Boiler engineer's license; valid driver's license.
Other : Must successfully complete pre-employment physical after a conditional job offer has been made.
