    The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.

    Nursing Program Specialist – Program Manager

    The Nursing Program Specialist will act as the Program Manager over the Community Health Client Service Programs including Healthy Start, Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection, Community Dental, Compass Client Referral and Family Planning Programs. This position reports to the Community Health Director and will work as part of the Community Health Management team along with managers for Health Promotion, Minority Health, and Epidemiology.

    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    • Performing supervisory duties including hiring, performance management and evaluation, timesheet approvals, leave approvals, motivating, training, and communication with staff.
    • Monitor and evaluate program performance and the performance of staff to ensure the program's quality of service and standards are met or exceeded.
    • Direct and monitor training and evaluation of all staff in the programs assigned to this position. Complete annual evaluations for direct reports and discuss performance expectations with direct reports at least quarterly during each evaluation year.
    • Manage budgetary and programmatic resources available for assigned L4's and provide input for their utilization based on program priorities. Participates in monthly and quarterly budget and spending plan review meetings.
    • Provides monthly program reports to Community Health Director including program outcomes and process improvement strategies when needed.
    • Promote the professional growth, education, and health of direct reports, and others within the FDOH-Hillsborough
    • Provides appropriate and timely reports and updates, in accordance with reporting requirements, to division director, and Hillsborough County Health Department leadership as needed.
    • Actively participates in the Community Health Management Team and FDOH-Hillsborough Program Management Team
    • Demonstrate leadership to all Community Health staff by following policies and procedures and through the promotion of a positive work environment.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Maintain Registered Nurse credential.

    Knowledge of community organizations and resources.

    Knowledge of the theories/concepts of preventive healthcare.

    Ability to supervisor people.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

    Ability to analyze data and interpret findings.

    Ability to manage assigned budgets.

    Skilled in the use of varied IT applications including, Word, Excel, and Teams

    Qualifications:

    Minimum:

    • Hold a current, active Florida Nursing license or a multistate license from another Compact State
    • Have at least three years of supervisory experience

    Preferred:

    • Have at least two years of budget planning or management experience.
    • Have at least three years of experience leading and managing a public health or community program or project.
