    Description

    The Clinical Laboratory Scientist Opportunity at USC

    The Clinical Laboratory Scientist at USC performs a variety of highly specialized Biochemical, Hematological, Microbiological, and Blood Banking analyses in the Clinical Laboratory. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of patient test results crucial for diagnosis, management, and treatment.



    Essential Duties:

    • Conducts manual, semi-automated, and automated Biochemical, Hematological, Microbiological, and Blood Bank analyses on diverse patient specimens.
    • Identifies normal, abnormal, unusual, and critical results and takes necessary actions following established laboratory policies.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in clerical and computer tasks, effectively communicates results, and fulfills additional clinical and clerical responsibilities.
    • Ensures results are available within defined TAT guidelines.
    • Maintains professional growth, participates in Quality Assurance Programs, and continuing education sessions.
    • Monitors supply levels, assists in training personnel, and collaborates with the supervisor for inventory management.
    • Maintains Safety and Infection Control guidelines.
    • Shows flexibility in covering the lab during emergencies and challenging staffing situations.
    • Other responsibilities include specimen collection, problem identification, test performance, and adherence to quality control procedures.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
    • Specialized/technical training for California Clinical Laboratory Scientist or California Specialty (Limited) License.
    • Previous experience in specialized analysis, quality control, computer operations, and inventory maintenance.
    • Organizational and time management skills, excellent communication abilities, and a strong knowledge base in laboratory procedures.
    • Familiarity with GMP regulations and basic computer skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Microbiology (ASCP) preferred.

    Required Licenses/Certifications:

    • Clinical Laboratory Scientist - CLS or Limited license from the State of California.
    • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) must be obtained within 30 days of hire (Required within LA City only).
