Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY:
The major function of this
Industrial Millwright position is to provide mechanical work, maintenance, rebuild services, and on-going repairs to the various machines in the plant.
Know, practice, and be in compliance with all safety rules and procedures. Maintain communication and teamwork to produce a product of the highest quality by the most effective process. Use of computer technology as required to support our quality and manufacturing processes.
Keep tools, equipment and work areas clean and orderly at all times and perform any miscellaneous operations as required in order to efficiently perform the overall job requirements.
OPERATOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Mechanic will observe and listen to machines in operation to determine cause of trouble. Dismantles equipment to remove defective parts, either functional or structural, and examines parts to determine cause of failure. Adjusts functional parts and replaces defective parts of machines or devices. Must understand characteristics of, and be experienced with maintaining/repairing various types of bearings, couplings, sprockets and chains. conveyors, transmissions, etc. Has working knowledge of tolerances for minimum/maximum clearance, interference fits, etc. taking into account dimensional changes due to temperature variations. Manufactures or fabricates parts, fits keys, lays out centerlines and assemblies per drawings, sketches, specifications, and written or verbal instructions. Makes file fits, drills, taps and reams holes, fits bearings. aligns bed plates, housings, rolls, line shafts, gears, couplings, etc. using levels, scales, dial indicators, feeler gauges, plumb bobs, radius gauges, etc.
Mechanic must know metals and their various characteristics, the principles of mechanical movement and basic strength-of-materials.
Installs, relocates and removes machinery using hoists, cranes, beams, scaffolds, blocking, trucks, jacks, chain blocks, etc., after determining the best and safest method of shifting, positioning, lifting and transporting.
Prepares foundations, including installation of all necessary anchor bolts, tie rods, etc., and grouts-in machinery bases or bed plates.Installs signs, hangers, holders, etc., and uses various structural shapes and pipe to fabricate and install bumpers, stops, guards, braces, etc.
Installs, splices, and tracks all types of
conveyor/drive belts and is knowledgeable about
conveyor drives, mechanical variable
speed devices, etc.
repair or fabricate
replacement enclosures, guards, guides, pans, etc.
Familiar with and capable of welding equipment, both electric and for joining various types of metals.

Operates maintenance all-craft power tools such as pedestal or bench grinders, saws, drill presses, etc.Mechanic lays out, fabricates, cuts, threads, flares, bends, assembles, aligns, fits and installs piping and tubing systems. Selects the various sizes and kinds of pipe, fittings, joints, gaskets, packings, etc. according to job specifications. Fabricate and/or assembles brackets, hangers, clamps, and miscellaneous hardware items associated with piping and piping apparatus installations. Installs and maintains pneumatic and hydraulic control systems, fixtures, cylinders, valves and related equipment throughout the plant.
Is familiar with operation of and repairs gauges, regulators, lubricators, strainers, condensers, heat exchangers, traps, diaphragms, snubbers, cylinders, valves, pumps, injectors, etc.
Must have working knowledge of and be capable of repairing powerhouse machinery such as boilers, compressors, and all auxiliary equipment.
Must be able to read and interpret piping layout and control schematic drawings for the machines and systems he/she maintains.
Is responsible for maintenance of all water treatment systems as well as sanitation and sewerage installations. Is familiar with and capable of using welding equipment, both electrical and gas, to weld pipe and fittings.Must be capable of using gas burning torch equipment as required to perform jobs such as sweating fittings and pouring leaded joints as well as for general heating of materials to facilitate bending or working into required shape.
Tests equipment for efficient and proper operation using standard or special testing procedures. Insulates pipe, fittings, and other apparatus. Applies identification bands, labels, etc., as required.Mechanic fills out daily timecard showing breakdown of jobs worked, departments charged, and hours used. Makes notations in various machine maintenance logbooks as instructed. Will perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma and/or general education (GED); and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that performs the essential functions of this position. Computer technology experience, a plus. Must be thoroughly proficient in mechanical skills. Must be capable of troubleshooting and repairing all breakdowns in a reasonable amount of time with minimal directions from supervisor. Must be able to weld ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
