Purpose of Announcement
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF JEFFERSON COMMUNITY ACTIONS PROGRAMS.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in various Departments as they occur.
Kind of Work
Entry-level, professional accounting position involving the maintenance of general ledgers, journals, etc., and the preparation of financial records and reports in accordance with established policies and procedures. Employees in this class may be required to interpret regulations and recommend procedures for maintaining and processing fiscal records. May perform auditing duties. May supervise clerical staff engaged in accounting duties.
For the current vacancy in Jefferson Community Action Programs, performs a variety of complex, professional level accounting duties ensuring that all reports and records are maintained accurately and promptly; assist in compiling fiscal data to Parish and Departmental Finance team to prepare financial statements; and assist and compile documentation for all audits. Meet with JeffCAP's Administrative Management Specialist IV - Fiscal Oversight and the Administrator(s) for regular budget meetings to review current General Ledger reports and Open Purchase Order reports; Assist with the monitoring of budgets and reports and the reviewing of expenditure requisitions and reimbursement requests to ensure compliancy with State and Federal regulations and fiscal responsibility. The position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
Meets one of the following two options:
I. Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with at least eighteen (18) credit hours of accounting coursework.
OR
II. Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status as an Account Clerk III or Account Clerk II-Central Finance Office, with at least two (2) years of experience working in that capacity; plus, possession of an Associate's degree from an accredited college with at least eighteen (18) credit hours of accounting coursework.
(Proof of education is required in the form of a college transcript).
Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Vacation (Annual Leave)
Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked.
Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is
usually paid upon separation from Parish Employment.

Employees accumulate one half day of paid sick leave for every two weeks worked.
Sick leave is available for personal illness, injury or medical consultations.
Holidays
Nine paid official holidays are observed, plus any holidays declared by Parish Officials.
Life Insurance
All regular employees receive a life insurance policy equal to one year's salary.
Extra insurance may be purchased.
Medical Insurance
An HMO medical insurance plan is avalable for employees and their
dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of
the premiums for dependents.
A Flexible Benefits Plan
Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health
insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings
Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.
Retirement
Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement
System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after
January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service
is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with
10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.
Tenure Payment
Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.
Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)
Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer
up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.
Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without
penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions
