The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Customer Relations Specialist (Convention Services).
General Description
Broward County's Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau (Visit Lauderdale) is looking for an experienced hospitality (convention) services specialist. Overall, the position will support convention groups, sports groups, and other sales efforts through maintaining positive relationships with local industry partners, connecting meeting planners with local resources, and planning/executing events for the organization.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires four (4) years of experience in customer relations, including two (2) years of experience dealing with major cruise lines, airlines, or other relevant business entities.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.
Preferences
Candidate with successful work experience in meeting or event planning is preferred.
Minimum of 2 years in a customer service / customer facing role within hospitality/tourism industry is strongly preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
This position will be a part of the team servicing meetings and groups booked through Visit Lauderdale's sales efforts. These events can vary from from small, single facility training sessions to large city-wide conventions. Delivering on service promises and planning event needs are necessary abilities for the successful candidate.
In addition to servicing meetings and groups, this position will assist with large-scale event planning. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, driven, service professional capable of balancing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. A candidate with successful working experience in meeting or large event planning is preferred.
This position performs related work as assigned.
In the event of a disaster (hurricane, etc.) all Broward County employees become emergency workers. This position will assist in various emergency functions as-assigned before, during, and after a disaster. This includes, but is not limited to, working at a general population shelter during a hurricane.

Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery.
