Job Description

Under the direction of the Associate Director, the Reference and Instruction Librarian works as a team member to provide information literacy instruction, reference and information services, and research support to the Life U community. This position may require some evenings and weekends as needed. This is a faculty position.

Responsibilities

Plans, coordinates, and delivers formal library instruction across all academic disciplines.
Surveys and assesses the effectiveness of the library's formal instruction program.
Prepares physical and virtual instructional materials, including tutorials, handouts, bibliographies, research guides, and other materials as needed.
Provides general and complex research assistance to library patrons in person and virtually using various communication technologies.
Assists patrons with proper use of the library, library technology, and resolves other issues that may arise.
Assists with planning, evaluating, and managing the daily operations of the research assistance desk (RAD).
Supports and recommends goals and objectives for the library's research assistance services (RAS).
Assists with surveying and assessing the effectiveness of the library's research assistance services.
Maintains current knowledge of library instruction, assessments, informational technologies, and research trends.
Communicates the library's services and resources to the university community utilizing various communication methods.
Contributes to the assessment of library activities, including the collection of statistics and preparation of reports.
Recommends new library services and resources, including collection development.
Assists in establishing written policies and procedures for library functions as well as executing policies and procedures.
Participates in appropriate library and university committees, activities, and professional organizations.

Requirements

Master's degree required from an ALA-accredited library program.
Three (3) years of professional working experience in an office or similar environment.
Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Office.
Familiarity with GALILEO, Library Management Systems, and Library of Congress classification.
Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects adhering to strict timelines.
High degree of initiative and independent judgment.
Skill in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Strong attention to detail and information accuracy, ability to organize work assignments, solve problems, and perform duties with a high level of accuracy.
Strong interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication skills, listening skills, teambuilding, and presentation skills.
Demonstrate integrity and professionalism in appearance and demeanor.
Ability to share and impart knowledge and reasoning to others, especially during controversial encounters.
