    The University Archives is part of the Special Collections and Archives department of the University Library, which includes the following collection areas: Southern Labor, Music & Popular Culture, Women's Collections, Gender & Sexuality, Photographic Collections, Atlanta Civic & Neighborhood History, and rare books.

    Position Description
    The University Library seeks a motivated, collaborative, and service-oriented University Archivist (open rank, non-tenure track faculty: options are: Librarian Instructor, Librarian Assistant Professor, Librarian Associate Professor) to provide leadership and expertise in the management of the University Archives, handling materials in all formats, engaging in instructional activities, and providing research support. The University Archives serves as the official "institutional memory" of the university, providing long-term preservation and access to the collection documenting its development and history.

    Responsibilities Include:

    Identifies, appraises, and acquires historical administrative and academic records in all formats that document the history of Georgia State University, its faculty, staff, students (including student organizations), and community to build and strengthen the University Archives.

    Works with administrative units across campus to ensure records identified as permanent records under the University System of Georgia records schedule are acquired, preserved, and accessible.

    Strategically collects contemporary content that reflects the diverse culture and community of GSU.
    Prioritizes access to university collections by processing collections in all formats and creating public access to materials in ArchivesSpace.

    Conducts oral histories of key faculty and administrators to fill gaps in the official institutional record.

    Engages with student groups to document their activities and history on campus.

    Promotes the history of the institution through reference, outreach activities, and instruction.

    Works with other faculty in the Special Collections & Archives department to research, develop, and design engaging and educational physical and digital exhibits.

    The position serves as a member of the library faculty (12-month, non-tenure track), holds faculty rank, and is expected to participate in research, professional development, and service activities as outlined in the University Library's faculty guidelines. The library is committed to providing exceptional professional development opportunities for its employees. While not required, employees are welcome to further their careers by earning an additional advanced degree, and, in most cases, tuition assistance is available.

    Required Experience
    Minimum of one year experience working in archives or special collections.
    Experience processing archival collections and creating finding aids.
    Experience working with archival collections, instruction, and outreach in a digital environment.


    Required Education
    Master's degree from an ALA-accredited Library/Information Science program or an accredited graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. History, English).

    Preferred Qualifications/Experience
    MLIS with a concentration in archives administration or graduate degree with a concentration in public history, museum studies, or other relevant concentration.
    Experience working in an academic research library.
    Demonstrated initiative, self-direction, and commitment to innovation and creativity.
    Experience with ArchivesSpace.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    Knowledge of current trends and developments in archives and special collections.
    Knowledge of records management principles and best practices.
    Ability to work with researchers, donors, alumni, and other constituencies.
    Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
    Knowledge of current practices related to acquiring, processing, and preserving born-digital records.


    Work Hours
    Monday – Friday 8:45a to 5:15p

    Salary

    $58,000 - $70,000
