The Assistant Librarian works with both Principal and Associate Principal Librarians to help prepare music for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) and Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO), as well as the support of both ensembles and their musicians through critical library processes.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Music Preparation

Assist in music preparation for all ASO and ASYO rehearsals and performances. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

marking of bowings, divisi, and other performance indications
adding measure numbers and/or rehearsal systems
marking of cuts or edits to musical roadmap or content
researching and correcting errata in printed scores and parts
improvement and fixing of music such as page turns, transpositions, or materials repair

Library Management

Assist in library processes to support ASO and ASYO musicians:

Assembly and disassembly of concert folders
Scanning, printing, and copying of practice parts
Organization and preparation of reference full scores
Check-in and return of rented sheet music
Inventory, catalog, and file ASO- and ASYO-owned sheet music
Update and maintain library database in OPAS
File and organize library files in SharePoint
Maintain confidentiality at all times, especially with respect to artistic planning

Rehearsal and Concert Duties

Assist in ASO and ASYO rehearsals and concerts:

Setting out and collection of concert folders
Facilitation of bowing changes and other music needs

Additional duties as assigned by the Principal Librarian

SPECIFIC CONDITIONS OF WORK:

The Assistant Librarian is a full-time, exempt position with hours and days of work which generally follow ordinary business hours (Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm), but may vary depending on the time needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. This may include some nights and weekends coinciding with ASO services or ASYO rehearsals. While conditions may alter the amount of time spent in any one area, the breakdown of the position responsibility can be expected as follows:

Music Preparation: 60%

Library Management: 35%

Rehearsal and Concert Duties: 5%

Frequent use of hands and wrists is required
Some standing, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting (at least 25 pounds) is required
The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in music or comparable experience
Preference for prior experience in performance on an orchestral instrument
Cumulative one-year minimum experience as a performance librarian at a regional orchestra, university, or summer program
Extremely close attention to detail and accurate work is fundamental to this position
Clear communication (both written and verbal) with developed people skills
Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting; prioritize multiple tasks; demonstrate strong problem solving and organizational skills
Preference for prior experience with library-related software and databases (e.g. Finale, Sibelius, Dorico, OPAS, ArtsVision, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop)
