The Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner is seeking a detail-oriented Case Information Specialist to join our team You'll contribute by initiating case records, preparing initial death certificates, maintaining chain of custody, and interacting with funeral homes, agencies, and other stakeholders.

As part of the Admitting team, you will be part of the central answering team of the office.

The goal of these investigations is to determine the medical cause (disease and/or injury) of the death to help improve the public's health and safety.

Our investigations inform families, the public and its agencies, and other community stakeholders in the hope that future deaths may be prevented.

This defined retirement benefit requires a 12.29% monthly contribution rate and includes a 100% employer match on Day 1- Learn more at- Work With Us | Maricopa County, AZWe Require- Two years of experience performing clerical duties in a health care, funeral home, law enforcement, or similar office environment- High school diploma or GED- An equivalent combination of post-secondary education in a life science, nursing, healthcare administration, or criminology field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value- Clerical experience in a health care setting- Experience working or volunteering in a medical examiner/coroner's office- Experience working with DAVE (the state's vital record system)- Experience working with decedents- Successful completion of college level coursework in anatomy and physiology- Successful completion of a medical office assistant training program- Bilingual skills (read, write, and speak the Spanish and English languages)

Job Contributions- Receives notifications of death and enters into the case management system, follow-up log, and dispatch log for investigator response; when appropriate, routes call to investigations- Admits decedents to the OME by entering data into automated case tracking system, creating hard copy files to initiate case records, weighing decedent, and transferring decedent into the appropriate cooler- Releases decedents from the OME by notifying funeral homes and/or families when decedents are ready for release, entering data into case management system, and verifying personal property and remains are released according to established protocols- Responds to inquiries concerning status of case from family members, funeral homes, law enforcement, and other agencies- Documents all calls into the call log of the case management system- Acts as custodian of decedent property during shift, ensuring that it is secured, inventoried at shift changes, and released with appropriate chain of custody


Working Conditions- Sufficient strength and physical and emotional stability to work under adverse conditions- Hours are full-time and include some holidays, nights and weekends- Shift work may be required.

- Requires working in close proximity to decedents and in an environment with malodorous conditions- Requires the ability to push/pull up to 100 pounds and lift up to 75 pounds

Selection ProcedureMust pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy, including drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitive
