    Summer Counselor

    Runs from June 6 - August 11

    Move-in + In-person Training: June 6 - June 9

    Camp: June 10 - August 9

    Move-out: August 9 - 11

    At Jen's Camp, we believe in giving kids experiences that empower them to build their confidence - by empowering them to choose from offered activities based on their own interests. Camp is for youth aged 5-12 with multiple activities happening simultaneously. Camp activities include engineering + animation, music, science experiments, crochet, games, our relaxation room (where they can recuperate energy), outdoor recreation and more

    Even the youngest of campers can typically approach an activity and figure out how to get started on their own. We have trained staff standing by to help guide campers and ensure they're being supported (both in the activity and socially and emotionally). Our biggest reward is watching camper's confidence in themselves grow as they successfully navigate tasks and learn processes independently.

    We are looking for people who love to get organized, prepare and lead. Who are ready to rock the prep work and plan ahead in order to create a very intentional calm that allows the campers the ability to dive-in, enjoy, create and thrive. Our areas are set up to be intuitive, meaning the campers can walk in and figure out how to get started. Our staff manage inventory, set-up, design and operations and that lends way to the kids being able to get super creative and into their projects while we keep an eye and put an ever present effort into their emotional and physical safety and growth. Wait, did we just say all of that and use the expression "intentional calm"? Yep. Yes, we sure did. With the plan ahead and prepwork in place we are constantly preparing, analyzing and improving an environment of calm so that the kids can flourish. Counselors ensure the emotional and physical safety of the campers and help them engage and try their best to say yes to their requests and ideas.

    A bit of how our counselors are both independent and supported through constant learning; Counselors are directors of their designated space ensuring all is safe and maintained both in the moment of use and the counselors are always surveying inventory to ensure we are using supplies as planned and communicating any deviations from plan that they see as needed to the Directors for both approval and support. Directors will always explain the why behind their thinking so counselors are constantly getting a full picture and better understanding the enables them to continue to make more and more educated and knowledgeable recommendations and shifts to their areas.

This check-in is beyond what were doing all day in our areas.     We have several areas of camp that are open at different times. This gives campers the ability to choose between offerings, without asking. We give them permission to choose from what is open.     Compensation

    Staff are paid at their hourly rate for our training, staff meetings, move-in/out and camp time worked. We follow state and federal requirements and staff are compensated at their agreed upon hourly rate stated in their offer letter.

    Spring Break and Summer staff positions are temporary, seasonally non-benefited positions and do not include paid vacation time.

    Required Availability

    Additional: The evenings leading up to move-out, we schedule staff to clock-out and take a break and then clock back in to help prep for move-out for 1-3 hours (in addition to regular 8 hour shifts) depending on scheduled needs. This will likely be Friday, April 7 only.

    Runs from June 6 - August 11, 2024

    Move-in + In-person Training: June 6 - June 9

    Summer Camp: June 10 - August 9

    Move-out: August 9 + 11

    Additional: 3-4 evening virtual staff meetings.

    The evenings leading up to move-out, we may schedule staff to clock-out and take a break and then clock back in to help prep for move-out for 1-5 hours depending on scheduled needs.

    Requirements:

    • At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
    • Clean Background Check
    • CPR + First Aid + AED Certification (That does not expire before August 9, 2024)
    • College Degree preferred or underway
    • Ideally experience working with a wide range of age levels in a camp or other youth setting as a professional

    Additional Job Requirements:

    • Being a Counselor is physically demanding, you are on your feet for extended periods of time and can be required to lift up to 60lbs safely (More for outdoor staff).
    • This and other activities can require physical exertion. We like to call this crossfit at Jen's Camp and joke that you can quit your gym membership this summer - but seriously, you can
    • Past leadership experience
    • Desire to grow both in this job and professionally

    Pay: From $16.00 per hour

    Schedule:

    • Day shift (7-8 hours)

    • Closed on Thursday, July 4, 2024

    Education:

    • Associate (Required)

    License/Certification:
