    Job Summary

    This

    Policy Analyst

    will provide support across several large-scale projects housed within the Latinx Center of Excellence at UCSF's Division of General Internal Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

    All projects work to support and improve healthcare workforce programs in the San Francisco Bay area through local community-based programs, academic research, university collaborations, higher education policy evaluation, and advocacy.


    Examples of projects and responsibilities include:

    Hellman Pathway Programs:
    Healthcare Rooted in Health Equity

    The Policy Analyst will support two pathway programs focusing on pre-health students at City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University, with possible expansion to UC Berkeley in the future.

    This position will work across several aspects of Hellman Pathway Programs, including assistance with implementation, data collection and evaluation, expansion, and administrative support to faculty, which requires working closely with different networks at both campuses, UCSF, and future university partners.

    The individual will also work with a broad network of stakeholders to advance policies at the college, university and district level to support pathway programs and workforce initiatives across the region and state.


    a.

    Pre-matriculation Leadership Academy for New Transfers - PLANT @ City College of San Francisco.

    This position will work with and support UCSF faculty and staff from the Transfer Preparation Program at UCSF to outreach, recruit, and monitor the progress of students interested in healthcare careers.

    This is a four-week summer program that will expose qualified students to clinical shadowing, webinars on career preparation, hands-on activities, and facilitation to transfer to SFSU pre-health pathway programs.

    Gators Reclaiming our Workforce - GROW @ San Francisco State University

    This position will work with and support UCSF and SFSU teaching faculty by onboarding all students into UCSF system for stipend payments, providing coordination of faculty and student meetings, assisting with planning an annual report for the funders, managing social media and website posts about the program, and providing mentorship to program participants with guidance from PI.

    The GROW program includes SFSU rising pre-health sophomores and 3rd year transfer students from the PLANT program.

    2)

    HRSA Program support - Aspiring Physicians Program (APP) @ San Francisco State University

    The Policy Analyst will work closely with the LCOE associate director and APP faculty members on student recruitment, administration, logistics, and survey administration for this 6-week summer program.

    This Policy Analyst will also support the LCOE with social media campaigns, website management, and program evaluation.

    ***NOTE: This is Hybrid role

    with possible evenings and weekends.

    Department Description

    The UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) delivers innovative, comprehensive and complex primary medical care to San Francisco's vulnerable patients; carries out highly impactful translational research focused on generating new knowledge to improve the health of vulnerable populations; engages in meaningful policy work focused on reducing health disparities and ensuring access to care; and trains the next generation of physician leaders and researchers in the care of vulnerable and underserved populations.


    The Latinx Center of Excellence (LCOE), led by Dr. Alicia Fernandez, is committed to creating programs that increase the number of UIM physicians in California and beyond.

    Our research focuses on state-led workforce development, community-based interventions and policies impacting the Latinx communities throughout the Bay area and Central Valley, leveraging Dr.

    Fernandez's expertise in healthcare disparities, immigrant health, and language barriers.

    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in related area and one or more years of relevant experience and / or equivalent experience / training.

    Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in both Spanish and English.
    Experienced and comfortable working with first-generation students, vulnerable populations (DACA & undocumented students) and low-income students.
    Fundamental knowledge of mentorship and advising with first-generation college students.
    Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
    Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
    Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
    Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
    Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize data with strong attention to detail.
    Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
    Proven attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
    Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in collaboration with a team.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Master's degree in related area.
