- Analyzes and evaluates existing and new business standard and moderate risk for all funding types.
- Completes financial analysis and settlements for self insured groups.
- Provides communication to internal and external customers expressing complex concepts in understandable terms.
- Develops and maintains documentation on underwriting processes and systems.
- Assists Senior Underwriter and Underwriting Consultants as requested.
- Completes special projects assigned by management.
- Keeps abreast of current underwriting practices, rating tools, industry changes and federal and state healthcare reform mandates.
- Provides training and work direction to lower level underwriters.

- Bachelor's degree.
Required Skills and Experiences:
- 3+ years of related professional experience. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.
- Working knowledge of underwriting guidelines and risk selection.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and Word; knowledge of Adobe.
- Advanced analytical and interpretive skills, with well developed problem solving ability.
- Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment, ability to represent department on cross functional work groups.

How Is This Role Important to Our Work?
This position is responsible for reviewing, preparing and analyzing risk for renewals, proposals, financial agreements and benefit changes. The underwriter is responsible for negotiation with sales or account management for final price and product configuration, support, documentation and communication of the same.
