    Job Description and Duties

If so, we invite you to join our department as a Human Resources Consultant As a Human Resources Consultant on our Performance Management Team (PMT) or Disciplinary Actions and Rejections Team (DART), you'll be responsible for providing advice, guidance, and recommendations to departmental leadership on issues related to performance management and formal actions.


    The PMT builds partnerships with organizational leaders that drive team member effectiveness, enhance team member experience, and set the organization up for ongoing success.

    This role provides coaching and guidance on a myriad of complex performance management matters, ranging from performance, attendance, insubordination, adverse actions, rejections during probation and Absence without Leave.

    The PMT also assists in the preparation and drafting of memoranda, performance evaluations and probationary reports in conformance with departmental policies and procedures, labor contracts, the State of California's progressive discipline process and control agency policies such as those of the State Personnel Board (SPB) and the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR).

    Through these solutions, PMT Consultants reinforce the framework of positive and effective leadership throughout the department.


    The DART is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and investigating pertinent attendance, performance, and employee behavior-related material to determine if disciplinary action is warranted.

    The team drafts disciplinary actions and rejections during probation, routes draft actions and rejections through the review process, coordinates service and oversees the Skelly process, assists in-house counsel with defending actions and rejections during an appeal, and consults with management on complex disciplinary matters.

    Working Conditions

    This position has been designated as eligible for telework and is currently a remote centered position. The position may however require in-person attendance when requested.

    The selected candidate would report to Department of Justice headquarters in Sacramento if/when required to attend mandated in-person meetings, trainings, etc.

    Expenses related to travel to the office for required events are the responsibility of the employee. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time.
