JOB TITLE: Special Education Teacher

COMPANY: Anchorage School District

Job Summary:

Plan and provide learning experiences for students with disabilities in various educational settings.
Create a flexible program and learning environment that offers specialized instruction and builds effective rapport with students.
Modify general education curriculum to meet students' needs with necessary supports.
Establish good relationships with parents and staff members.

Job Requirements:

Hold a valid Alaska teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education.
Show evidence of content knowledge through various means.
Preferred experience working with special education students and supporting IEP needs.

Essential Job Functions:

Describe philosophy of education and apply knowledge of how students learn.
Maintain standards of pupil behavior and organize class time effectively.
Teach with respect for individual and cultural characteristics.
Develop lesson plans, use technology for instruction, and apply current research and theory.
Assess student learning, keep records, and create a conducive learning environment.
Partner with parents, families, and the community.
Participate in and contribute to the teaching profession.

Physical / Mental Demands:

The job requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing with specific visual abilities. Must handle stress, make effective decisions under pressure, and manage diverse work environments.

Work Environment:

Professional environment with diverse individuals and settings. Exposure to video display and outdoor weather conditions. Moderate noise level.
