Description
The Position:
The Librarian position works weekdays and two evening shifts per week and is included in the weekend rotation of a 4-hour shift on a consistent weekend day, every other or every weekend.
Position Definition:
_** Performs professional librarian work in and out of the public library; maintains the library collections; technical processes and reference activities; supervises operations of libraries; plans and promotes programs and activities of the library; performs related work as required.
**_Supervision Exercised and Received:
_** Oversees the work of para-professionals and volunteers and provides input regarding work schedules, work activities and training. Receives general direction from assigned management and supervisory staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver programs and services to the community and build solid relationships with local businesses, nonprofits, faithbased groups, colleges/universities, and other organizations serving San Leandro;
- Promotes the library to the public and creates new library programs that support community needs;
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, promote, and carry out programming and outreach, including special events, classes and workshops, tours, and assemblies and have the flexibility to provide services to the community for all age ranges;
- Selects general collection of books, periodicals, media and other materials contained in the library; reviews and keeps abreast of major selection tools; reviews books, periodicals, and collections which are outdated or underutilized, and recommends removal and disposition; coordinates donations to library and museum;
- Provides reference research and information assistance to library patrons; locates books and other materials; instructs and assists patrons in locating information and materials in person or utilizing a variety of media including the Internet; and
Qualifications:

Graduation from an American Library Association accredited college or university with a Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Services degree._Experience:

Three years of increasingly responsible experience in the areas of adult, youth and children's program development and collection development; community outreach programs and technical processing.Additional Information:
