THE POSITION:


DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

As part of this position, your main responsibility will involve inspecting various stages of transportation construction work.

This will include tasks such as checking grades, elevations, and stake-outs, both for structures and roadways, in collaboration with contractors and surveyors.

Additionally, you will be responsible for verifying the correct placement of materials like cement concrete, bituminous concrete, and drainage materials, as well as conducting compaction testing for sub-surface strata, soils, and aggregate using visual non-movement method.

Furthermore, you will be required to interact with Department staff, federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the general public to ensure the smooth administration of projects.

Any other related duties will also be assigned to you as needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Seasonal fulltime employment
  • This is a vendorcontrolled position, flex schedule.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday
  • Friday, with a 30minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • One year as an Engineering Technician (commonwealth title);
    or:
  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (commonwealth titles);
    or:
  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work;
    or:
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics;
    or:
  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology;
    or:
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:


  • This position requires possession of an active noncommercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
