    Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position.

    All temporaries are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

    Individuals hired in a temporary State job must be fully qualified for the job.

    This temporary position is located in Raleigh - Wake County.


    Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $22.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

    This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services. This position is located at 225 N. McDowell St., Raleigh, NC 27603.


    This temporary position is located within the Communicable Disease Branch of the Epidemiology Section within the Division of Public Health and will provide secretarial duties, as assigned.

    This position is full-time in-person with a traditional Monday - Friday, 8-5 schedule.


    The individual in this position will greet DPH employees, contractors, and vendors to assist with the operations within one of the largest branches within the division and therefore must have excellent communication skills.

    This position will not have to greet members of the public; however, the individual in this position will be responsible for answering our main phone lines, which occasionally receives a public report or inquiry.

    The primary job duties of this position consist of:


    • Answering our main phone line and coordinating with our epidemiologists to ensure the caller receives a quick response.
    • Processing incoming and outgoing mail, including interoffice mail with 7 regional offices.
    • Maintaining accurate records, including our branch directory and inventory lists.
    • Acting as a lead for our regional receptionists, working with them to maintain records, review inventory of office supplies, onboard new staff, etc.
    • Assisting with various duties as assigned by the Purchasing Administrator and Operations Supervisor.
    Interested applicants should be able to demonstrate the following:


    • Customer service experience
    • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office
    • Ability to create or maintain reports and records
    • Excellent communication skills

    • Considerable knowledge of services, policies and procedures related to a program or area of specialization.
    • Ability to demonstrate and apply this knowledge in performance of administrative tasks; ability to explain and interpret information to clients/customers and staff.
    • Considerable knowledge of program policies, procedures and information systems in order to communicate and process information.
    • Ability to compile, assimilate and organize both printed and electronic information; ability to apply knowledge of data collection, storage, organization, manipulation and/or analysis of data.
    • Ability to utilize office equipment and other relevant technology (software and systems) to meet organizational needs.
    • Ability to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions.
    • Ability to clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups.
    • Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively in written form; ability to adjust language or terminology to meet the needs of the audience; ability to use correct grammar, organization, and structure.

    High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
