    Avanos CO-OP/Intern: R&D Engineer

    The Program

    The Avanos CO-OP/Intern program is a unique experience giving current students the opportunity to work one or more terms under the direction of an experienced engineer assisting and executing real work in the area of medical device product development, sustaining, and supply chain execution. CO-OP/Intern Positions may be available in Research & Development (R&D), Quality Assurance & Regulatory, or Supply Chain & Procurement.

    These full-time (40 hours/week), paid positions that are 11-12 weeks in length and typically reflect the standard school semester. Positions are available during the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters. Avanos' main office location is located in Alpharetta, GA and housing assistance is not currently offered for out of state students. Most positions require a flex work arrangement (some time in the office, some work done from a non-office location - e.g. home office).

    During the program, students will be matched up with a Mentor and will get exposure to various meet-and-greets with senior leadership, networking opportunities, and social events with fellow co-ops.

    The Role

    The individual in this role shall assist in the design and development, testing and other R&D activities in support of one of the product portfolios. Individuals are expected to execute technical tasks in support of product development including the following: test method development, specification development/remediation and V&V testing. Applicants are expected to possess a solid understanding of engineering principles (Ex. Mechanics of plastic deformation) and statistical analysis (Ex. Tolerance interval calculations).

    Responsibilities:
    1. Provide support for technology development and competitive product evaluations.
    2. Perform verification and validation activities of medical device products, ensuring products meet customer requirements and specifications including hands-on testing.
    3. Create high quality 3D parametric models from conception while following prescribed design standards and requirements.
    4. Actively engage in formal and informal written and verbal communication within the team and with cross functional team members.
    5. Resolve technical problems. Identify or create solutions for technical problems using systematic problem-solving and statistical methodologies.
    6. Work to maintain product performance and quality by and assisting with issues relating to R&D such as:
    7. Failure investigation and analysis
    8. CAPA resolution
    9. Design changes
    10. Test method and tooling design
    Your qualifications

    Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering in Process (Preferably BME or ME)
    • Minimum GPA of 3.0 out of cumulative 4.0 GPA
    • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full time basis and does not require sponsorship in the future for an employment visa
    • Must be able to participate full time (40 hours/week) as part of the intern cohort
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree student with sophomore or Junior Level class standing
    • Previous Internship experience is a strong plus
    • Effective communication skills: listening, writing, speaking and oral presentations
    • Strong technical acumen, problem solving, self-motivated, and independent.
    • Proven collaboration with cross-functional/multi-disciplinary teams, especially technical development teams.
    • Familiar with good documentation practices (protocols, data analysis and reports)
    • Knowledge within the medical device industry including quality requirements and regulatory requirements
    • Working knowledge of solid modeling using Solidworks
    • Experience with report writing and test protocols
    • Strong knowledge of Statistical Methods
