- Take an ocular and systemic history and accurately record visual acuity.
- Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information. Performs testing required by type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and history.
- Acts as scribe while physician examines patient entering data into electronic medical records.
- Performs lensometry, automated refractometry, slit lamp examination including applanation tonometry, anterior chamber angle assessment and gross external exam, ocular muscle motility and balance testing, assess pupils and confrontation visual fields.
- Administers diagnostic tests – OCT, automated visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry
- Performs manifest refraction
- Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications
- Assists with in-office procedures ensuring proper informed consent is obtained, sets up and cleans up from procedures.
- Assists in training of other ophthalmic assistants.
- Assists with patient education.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the work day.
- Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations. Understands and accepts responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer.

Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED). Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline highly preferred.
Certificates & LicensesCertified Ophthalmic Assistant
Experience: 2-4 years of prior ophthalmic assistant experience
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
· Facile with Microsoft Products
· Within 4 weeks of hire must be facile with Athena PMS and practice based EMR
WORK ENVIRONMENTAn office environment with controlled atmosphere. Possible exposure to staff or patients with communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens.
