$ 45,244 - $72,408

General Engineering Tech II:
$48,158 - $ 77,477

Position Description


Performs and coordinates highly advanced transportation engineering operations or maintenance support work such as construction and/or complex contract maintenance inspection; light and heavy equipment operation; roadway maintenance; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees.

May serve as a lead worker. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.


Essential Duties:


  • Maintains liaison and acts in a consultative capacity with local utility companies, engineering consultants and the general public regarding utility and driveway placements.
  • Performs onsite inspection of the installation/construction of driveways and utilities permitted to ensure compliance with approved permit and to verify proper traffic control measures are being followed.
  • Consults with area engineer and/or maintenance supervisor on complex utility/driveway permit issues.
  • Maintains permit documentation, records and plan sets.
  • Meets with the public to resolve the problems of encroachments on state rightofway.
  • Reviews and processes driveway permits.
  • Works closely with city and county agencies and coordinates the departmental review of site plans for developments abutting the state rightofway.
  • Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:


Education:
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies


General Engineering Tech I:4 years in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent).


General Engineering Tech II :6 years in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent).

Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.


Licenses and Certifications:


  • Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Commercial Driver's License
