Core Responsibilities

  • The Department Manager will oversee a new department being added to Strategic Planning's Utility Business Strategy and Innovation Department.
This position will oversee and drive studies and analyses that enable and inform CECONY and ORU on:

Low Carbon Fuels (i.e., Renewable Natural Gas and Hydrogen), Supply Side Assets (i.e., Large Scale Renewable), Federal Grant Applications and Diligence, Steam System Decarbonization, Clean Energy Adoption, and Strategic Planning Support.


  • Lead, inform, and promote the development of Low Carbon Fuel capital projects
  • Lead, inform, and promote the development of Supply Side Assets that have mínimal emissions
  • Project manage the submission of Federal Grants that enable a clean energy future, in particular through the DOE's Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Negotiate and coordinate such grants with DOE.
  • Support Steam Decarbonization studies, proceedings, filings, and project development. Ability to testify in regulatory proceedings and Rate Cases.
  • Perform technical, financial, and environmental studies and calculations that support potential strategies for Electric, Gas, and Steam Operations
  • Perform technical, financial, and environmental studies and calculations for long term planning and corporate development
  • Support the Company during emergencies

Required Education/Experience

Relevant Work Experience

  • Utility/Energy: At least 10 years of experience in any area of a utility energy sector company with a bachelor's degree OR at least 8 years of experience in any area of a utility energy sector company with a Master's Degree. Required
  • At least 5 years is in the area of either planning, energy forecasting, energy management/markets, strategic planning; energy asset due diligence, development, and management. Required
  • Excel, Power Point, Word, and ability to learn Python. Required
  • A strong knowledge of current Federal/NYC/NYS energy policy and regulations. Required
  • Ability to sharply present detailed complex concepts to regulators, elected officials and Senior Management. Required
  • Regulatory/Rate Case experience. Preferred

  • Driver's License Required

Physical Demands

  • Sit or stand to answer a phone for the duration of the workday
  • Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to stoop, bend, reach, and kneel throughout the workday

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Ability to travel to Albany and Washington DC on occasion.
