- Installing overfill protection valves, spill containment equipment and other routine repair/compliance projects on underground fuel storage tanks.
- Pouring concrete, removal of concrete, installing/uninstalling fuel dispensers and general laborer duties.
- Assist with simple paperwork.
- Under the Foreman's supervision, act as a leader to independently undertake a specific phase of work and assist others in the completion of that goal.
- Be able to spot and direct the heavy equipment operators from the ground during excavation operations. The ability to operate small machinery, such as a skid steer loader or backhoe, is a plus.
- Help maintain a clean and organized job site per the foreman's direction.
- Help maintain a safe job site - make sure all signs and safety barricades and devices are in place and wear the proper personal protective equipment for the task being performed.
- Keep the tools of the trade picked up, cleaned and organized on the truck or job trailer.
- Keep the job inventory organized per the foreman's directions.
- Communicate and look ahead to avoid problems and help plan.
- Present a professional image and maintain personal appearance.
- Travel required with occasional overnight stays out of town.
- Possess a valid driver's license and be able to safely operate a construction truck and trailer when needed.
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools (tools provided).
- Must be able to safely lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds
- Able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and sit.
- Able to use hands, fingers, handle or feel and reach out with hands and arms extensively.
- Climbing stairs, ladders or sloped grades and walking on uneven terrain.
- Ability to see up close and at a distance.
- Ability to work outside in hot or cold or humid situations
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts and/or machinery and excessive noise
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work 8-12 hours per day depending on work assignment

Optum Petroleum Services has an immediate opening for a full time Petroleum Construction Technician based out of our Lafayette, Indiana location. We're looking for the right individual to become a part of our growing team. Our ideal candidate will be someone who is looking for a long term opportunity and the chance to grow within our organization. The construction technician is a full time position. Starting wage will be based on accreditations and experience.
The Petroleum Construction Technician performs many tasks that require physical labor on construction sites. This person will work independently and alongside other team members. They may carry tools and materials or help set up equipment. They can perform a wide range of tasks varying in complexity from very easy to extremely difficult and potentially hazardous. There is daily travel to varying jobs sites involved, but typically you will be home each night.
