Job Title: Equipment Engineering Co-op: Controls Engineering

Department: Global Equipment Engineering - Acton

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Position Overview:

The Global Equipment Engineering team is focused on supporting Insulet's manufacturing operations in our new state of the art high speed automated manufacturing facility in Acton, MA. The assembly lines consist of discrete islands of automation. To support bringing these discrete component assembly lines to life and sustain manufacturing, comprehensive support and improvements of all the PLC, HMI, AIV (Autonomous Intelligent Vehicle), robotic and vision software is necessary. Some development, assembly and validation of measurement circuitry for connection to PLCs and test systems is also necessary to provide control signals to and from automation components. This candidate will work closely with the engineering team and Operations team to design and develop controls and software solutions to existing issues, vet new designs and create a means to deliver Insulet's new products pipeline.

Ideal candidate has experience and interest in engineering equipment automation, lab testing, instrumentation and metrology.

Responsibilities:

The successful coop will support lead electrical engineers in the support and improvement of manufacturing lines.

Support and improvement will include the following:

logic to sequence the operation of the equipment
motion control to move mechanisms with servo motors, VFDs, and robots
user interface features to allow operations and manufacturing to view the equipment function and performance
inspection logic to check and measure the product components at various stages of assembly
data collection of equipment performance and product process variables, this may include data mining of information
AIV support, troubleshooting and improvement of present system

Also required is collaboration with the mechanical engineering team during mechanical design reviews and equipment build inspections.

COOP job focus:

To support and develop controls for the production of Insulet's Omnipod product. The successful coop will learn, assist and deliver in the following areas:

Imaging system support and improvement. This training and support will include imaging systems across the line
ABB robotic support: teaching, fault recovery & improvements
PLC code support and improvement (Rockwell CompactLogix)
AIV Support and improvements

Enrolled as BS candidate in EE

Physical Requirements (if applicable):

Possible travel required to automation supplier in Canada

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $ $31.25. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
