    Description

    Exicure is seeking a patent agent to assist in the development and implementation of strategies to secure and protect Exicure's intellectual property.

    The Patent Agent will work in a fast-paced environment with a broad range of intellectual property matters helping to build and maintain a strong IP portfolio, protecting SNA technology platform and pipeline.

    The Patent Agent will work closely with scientists, company leadership, and outside counsel and will have a solid foundation in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field and a strong understanding of U.S.

    and international intellectual property laws and concepts related to the biopharmaceutical business.

    Primary responsibilities of this position will include:

    • Draft and coordinate prosecution of patent applications directed to our SNA platform and pipeline
    • Develop strategies for and conduct prior art database searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses
    • Analyze patent and scientific literature to assist with global patent prosecution
    • Review and analyze experimental data and proposed publications, and advise scientific and multidisciplinary project teams
    • Work closely with scientists to draft and prosecute high quality patent applications
    • Develop responses to office actions and prosecution strategies globally
    • Manage patent prosecution for in-licensed IP and collaboration-related IP matters
    • Assist with the development and management of Exicure's global patent portfolio
    • Execute prosecution strategy in line with corporate objectives and programs
    • Educate and advise employees on IP matters

    Requirements:

    • PhD in biology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or related scientific discipline; some lab bench scientist experience a plus
    • USPTO registration required
    • 3-5 years of hands-on patent prosecution experience, preferably directed to nucleic acid therapies
    • Strong analytical and research skills required, including experience with patent and non-patent literature databases, as well as nucleic acid sequence search databases
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must communicate legal issues and solutions clearly and concisely
    • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with acute attention to detail
    • Able to think logically and display excellent judgment and decision making
    • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance
