    This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, as well as retirement.

    The Department of Commerce is currently working a Hybrid (onsite/offsite) Teleworking schedule.


    Salary Grade:
    NC07


    • Recruitment Range: $34, $56,000.00This posting is Internal to Current State Government Employees only.
    The Accounting Technician III is assigned to the Accounting Office. This position provides fiscal support service to several General and Special fund agencies within the Department of Commerce.

    The Accounting Technician III serves as a specialist in the Accounts Payable area and is responsible for the accuracy of entries, maintenance of accounting records and the interpretation of regulations.

    This position generates and analyzes monthly fiscal reports to determine accuracy of data and codes, reconciliation and ensures the availability of funds.

    The Accounting Technician III working with Accounting Manager and the Office of State Controller to manage corrections in the accounting system.

    Major duties include but not limited to;


    • Administering and ensuring accurate coding and timely payment of department's bills and obligations.
    • Activating, reviewing and analyzing fiscal reports prior to submission of payment files to ensure availability of funds.
    • Technical assistance and training of division fiscal representatives.
    About Fiscal Management


    Fiscal Management ensures proper financial operations are maintained for all divisions by advising policies and procedures as outlined by the Office of State Controller (OSC), The Office of Purchase & Contracts (P&C) and the Office of State Budget and Management (OSBM).

    Financial Operations consist of Accounting, Budget, Purchasing and Reporting. Fiscal Management provides guidance, direction and administrative support for the various programs, divisions and commissions within the Agency.

    The Accounting Office provides core day-to-day activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash management, payroll functions, and fixed assets tracking.

    This unit also assists in state directed grant management and federal grant actions.

    Associate's degree in Accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in accounting; or High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
