Role Description
This position is for a Graduate Consultant Intern - Operations role based in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area (with ability to travel to client site). The duration of this internship is expected to be 10-12 weeks. The Graduate Intern will work closely with our internal team to provide expert insights and support to our clients in improving manufacturing performance, quality systems, and operational execution. This role is ideal for a graduate student interested in biotech operations, manufacturing science, quality systems, or management consulting within regulated life-science environments.
The Graduate Consultant Intern will assist in analyzing organizational issues, developing tailored solutions, and supporting process improvements in clients' operational areas. Daily tasks may include conducting data analysis, participating in client meetings, preparing reports and presentations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive impactful strategies.
The Graduate Consultant Intern will work closely with senior consultants on real client engagements, contributing to operational assessments, data analysis, and the development of practical improvement solutions across manufacturing, quality, and supply chain functions.
Qualifications
- Strong Analytical Skills for problem-solving, data interpretation, and operational assessments
- Experience or interest in Consulting and Operations Management
- Excellent Communication skills for preparing clear reports and engaging with clients and team members
- Customer Service experience and ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders
- Proven ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in dynamic environments
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, or a related field (current enrollment as a graduate student is preferred)
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g., Excel, Tableau) is a plus
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support operational excellence initiatives within biotech and biopharma manufacturing environments
- Assist with process mapping, value stream analysis, and current-state assessments
- Analyze manufacturing, quality, and performance data (e.g., deviations, cycle time, throughput, backlog)
- Help develop presentations, dashboards, and visual management tools for client deliverables
- Contribute to short-interval control boards, KPI tracking, and performance metrics
- Participate in problem-solving and root cause analysis activities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and participate in client meetings (as appropriate)
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Currently enrolled or recently completed a graduate program (MS, PhD, MBA, or equivalent) in:
- Biotechnology / Bioprocess Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Industrial or Systems Engineering
- Life Sciences
- Operations Management or related field
Requirements include:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel (data analysis and presentation development)
- Familiarity with analytical software such as PowerBI, Tableu, etc. is a plus
- Interest in biopharma manufacturing, quality systems, and regulated environments
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently and within a team to achieve project goals
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly
- Ability to travel (domestic or international) extensively, up to 80 to 100% as required by client needs
Preferred Skills:
- Exposure to GMP manufacturing or regulated life-science environments
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement concepts
- Experience with data visualization, KPIs, or performance dashboards
- Prior internship or project experience in biotech, pharma, medical devices, or consulting
- Comfort working in ambiguous problem spaces and adapting quickly
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in life sciences, business, operations, or a related field
- Currently enrolled or recently completed a Master's degree program in life sciences, business, operations, or a related field
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Ability to communicate clearly in person and over electronic mediums
- Occasionally required to lift and move objects up to 15 pounds
- Ability to perform repetitive motions, such as typing and using a mouse
- Visual acuity to review detailed data and reports on screen for extended periods
