    The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Director, State Government Affairs and Community Engagement [R0141368].

    ROLE of the POSITION


    The Office of Government and Community Engagement serves as the central resource for external campus relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials, as well as with community stakeholders.

    It is focused on building broad-based support to advance the mission of UNLV; and broadly demonstrating UNLV as a community resource.


    As part of the Office of Government and Community Engagement, the Director of State Government Affairs and Community Engagement, under the direction of the Vice President of Government and Community Engagement, will collaborate with all offices represented in the President's cabinet and the colleges to advance institutional government affairs and community engagement endeavors.

    The Director will be expected to fill in for the Vice President regularly with respect to attending legislative meetings, lobbying activities, legislative testimony and other events involving government or community engagement.


    With respect to government affairs, the Director provides meaningful support toward crafting a legislative and intergovernmental strategy for the university, as well as representing the university's positions on various policy areas.

    The Director will be required to travel to Carson City and Washington, DC, to give presentations, attend legislative meetings, undertake lobbying activities, provide official legislative testimony and undertake any other government affairs activities as necessary.


    With respect to community engagement, the Director will facilitate engagement and partnership with individuals and organizations in the Southern Nevada community and State of Nevada, as well as assist with building university infrastructure to support faculty, staff, and students involved in community engagement.

    In doing so, the Director will collaborate with leaders of community nonprofits, businesses, and other organizations to facilitate UNLV partnerships; lead the coordination of events intended to promote community engagement and develop programs or projects to advance institutional community engagement.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


    This position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 5-9 years of experience required.

    Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
