Job Functions:
The Machine Shop Helper is responsible for all job activities required to support production processes. This position fills in as necessary on various production jobs and departments within the facility.

The Machine Shop Helper is cross trained in many areas and will step in at any time to get all departments up to speed and running efficiently.

This position assists co-workers by performing a variety of duties, such as furnishing another worker with materials, tools, and supplies; cleaning work area, machines, and equipment; holding materials or tools; and performing other routine duties.


Essential Functions:


  • Assists machine operators as needed with material handling
  • Deburrs, polishes, and cleans materials
  • Performs post cutting cleaning process
  • Use tools, machinery and equipment such as band saw to cut parts removing excess materials.
  • Removes product, machine attachments, and waste materials from machine.
  • Signals coworkers to facilitate moving product, during processing.
  • Replaces damaged or worm equipment parts, ensures necessary tools for a particular job are at the work center.
  • Tends to equipment to facilitate process.
  • Observes operation and notify equipment operator of malfunctions.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned by Management.

Skills and Qualifications
Ability to maintain cleanliness and standards of health & safety in compliance with OSHA
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers
Ability to use basic hand tools.
Ability to use a variety of manufacturing equipment including, but not limited to, saws, planers, grinders, and pallet jack.


Education and Required Experience

  • High School or equivalent
  • One to two years of machine shop experience

Job Requirements


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.

The employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
