    Purpose of the Role:


    The Engineering department in RX delivers excellence in software, data, and infrastructure engineering to continuously improve the impact and value of software and data to BR.

    It is responsible for building and maintaining intuitive, intentional, and integrated software solutions that create a frictionless user experience in line with the priorities and roadmaps co-created within the product teams and with our business stakeholders.


    As the Engineering Manager of Drug Discovery Insights in ENG, you will lead, develop, and mentor a group of experienced associates who are responsible for ensuring the highest quality in software design, engineering, and architecture.

    In co-leadership with the Product Line Manager and Product Operations Lead, and in collaboration with your team and other key stakeholders, you will increase quality, speed & impact of drug discovery project decisions and ensure that your team contributes to an integrated, capability-based product landscape.


    Working as a team with other Engineering Managers and the head of Software and Data Engineering, you will be a key contributor to a shared vision for Software and Data Engineering as one of the three critical pillars in the Product matrix, evolve the strategy, framework, and product operating model for Software and Data Engineering, and lead your team to the successful realization of that vision.

    You will effect positive change and be a role model for the product matrix. You will balance long and short term goals as well as NVS, BR, and RX priorities.


    Major Accountabilities:


    Establishing and optimizing effective, sustainable, and secure technical delivery across your team that adheres to and contributes to Engineering Excellence.


    Facilitating the definition, assessment, and implementation of technical solutions across products that tackle prioritized problems and contribute to a holistic technical architecture.

    Buying and integrating when it makes sense, and building in-house when necessary.

    Attracting, managing, and growing top talent as a coach, mentor, and role model.

    Inspiring and enabling innovation and a strong DevOps culture in your team with Agile and Lean methodologies.

    Supporting your team members in bringing Product visions within your team into reality.


    Providing the strategic context necessary for your team to effectively prioritize product roadmaps and resources, measure product success, and assess value delivery.


    Ensuring continuous value increase of the Products in your team by supporting and holding your team members accountable for continuously improving engineering productivity and efficiency.


    Contribute to establishing common processes, standards and tools around software engineering and ensuring these are followed by your team members.

    Ensuring adherence to security, quality and regulatory compliance (e.g. GLP & GCP) standards and policies.

    Role Requirements

    What you'll bring to the role:

    University degree or equivalent. Master's degree desirable.

    Experience in drug discovery.

    Experience with computation and visualization needs of data science.


    The ability to lead effectively in a co-leadership model inside of a matrix organization, and to collaboratively develop and promote a shared vision.

    Creativity in identifying, encouraging, and accelerating innovative solutions, including in GxP regulated environments if applicable.

    Courage to challenge the status quo, to experiment, and to take smart risks.
