    Job Summary:

    Behavioral Technicians are vital in providing services to students who require behavioral support. They assist in delivering behavior-analytic services under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The WAC describes the requirements for a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), and the WAC describes the details of a valid training program for Certified Behavior Technicians (CBT). Applicants must have completed the 40-hour training course and be a certified RBT/CBT in order to be eligible for this position. The Behavior Technician will work with the Special Education department with a special, intensive focus on the needs of students with significant behavioral challenges. This individual is responsible for assisting the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Special Education Case Manager to provide and implement intensive support for behavior reduction and skill acquisition plans. The Behavior Technician will assist individual students, classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, all special education staff, building teams, and parents/guardians with day-to-day activities, behavior monitoring, and recording and collecting data on progress. The Behavior Technician will work within the context of a team with the goal of supporting an environment where students with challenging behaviors can achieve academic, social, and emotional success.

    Essential Job Functions:

    This list of essential job functions needs to be completed and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
    • Work with students with disabilities to implement individualized instructional programs BCBA designed based on Applied Behavior Analysis principles.
    • Supports the implementation of behavioral programming for students, including implementation of appropriate assessment and intervention methods, consultation with team members and others in the school setting, and implementation of ethical and effective behavior analytic interventions
    • Supports crisis response and management for students who are experiencing significant behavioral and emotional challenges
    • Supports implementation of intensive direct behavior analytic interventions, skill acquisition plans, and service to appropriate students
    • Collects appropriate data, including observation and intervention support on a short-term or ongoing basis for students in behavioral crisis
    • Describes behavior and environment in observable and measurable terms
    • Assists with individualized assessment procedures (e.g. curriculum-based, developmental, social skills)
    • Assists with functional assessment processes
    • Provides behavior assistance and intervention to assigned student(s)
    • Provides behavior support services and crisis intervention
    • Review and implement behavior intervention plans and related IEP goals
    • Strictly adhere to confidentiality requirements
    • Assist students in the development of independent skills through self-care activities such as toileting, clothing routines, and personal hygiene.
    • Implement behavior management techniques in accordance with the directions given by the supervising teacher; including reinforcing appropriate behaviors in accordance with the teacher plan and supervising the student during these behavior management techniques.
    • Participating in IEP/ Individualized Education Plan meetings as needed

    • Knowledge of physical or occupational disabilities, speech/language development, and/or vision instruction if applicable
    • Skills in written and oral communications
    • Skills in operating a PC (personal computer) utilizing district-adopted software
    • Skills in learning and interpreting assignments, procedures, rules, and regulations
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Be at least eighteen years of age
    • High School diploma or equivalent required
    • Specialized training for certification, including skill assessment and exam
    • Current Registered Behavior Technician Certification (RBT) or Certified Behavior Technician (CBT)
    • Must be Right Response or other behavioral/de-escalation trained or willing to be trained
    • Two (2) years relevant experience preferred
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in ABA intervention, including data collection and report writing
    • Demonstrated ability to accurately and consistently follow Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and Individualized Education Programs (IEP)
    • Ability to stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, and stand for long periods of time
    • Position could require diapering, toileting, and feeding of special needs students
    • Ability to assist in student de-escalation and physical intervention when needed
    • Ability and willingness to work with students who bite, kick, hit, and can be verbally aggressive
    • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds and assist with Emergency Response Protocols regarding student restraint
    • 1st Aid & Adult/Child CPR training (completed within 30 days from the date of hire and to be maintained for the duration of this job) Up to District Standards.
    • Right Response training to be maintained for the duration of this job (completed within 30 days from the date of hire and to be maintained for the duration of this job)
    • Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferred
    • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
    • Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
    • I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act
    • Completion of all district-required training thirty (30) calendar days from the hire date
    Work Environment:

    The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This is an office job. The employee is confined to a work area; required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements; experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; must be able to work at a computer monitor for prolonged periods; and must be able to crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, and lift/move objects such as files, boxes, etc. The employee is required to deal with distraught and angry persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.

    Evaluation:

    This position shall be evaluated periodically by the Executive Director of Special Education pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria in addition to requirements per the BACB and WAC. The process shall include evaluating the employee's performance of the above essential job functions.
