- Assists the Lab Supervisor with the maintenance of the native plant beds, the Outdoor Living Laboratory, other external native plant gardens.
- Monitoring and maintain watering schedules, vegetation management by removal of invasive and weedy plant species by mechanical removal, gas powered equipment such a weed eater, and handheld sprayers.
- Assists with general outdoor plant, shrub and tree maintenance: including trimming, pruning, and will learn Integrated pest management protocols.
- Removal and disposal of dead plant material, woody debris and trash from the Outdoor Living Laboratory.
- Learn basic plant Identification of native and invasive plant species, as well as the technology used to identify living organisms, and report to the Lab Supervisor for confirmation and documentation.
- Assist with seed collection, cleaning, and processing of native seed from collection to germination, planting and maintenance during plant establishment, including watering.
- Assist the Lab Supervisor in supporting academic labs, internal and external activities, events, and must attend meetings upon request.
- Assists with the maintenance and security of classrooms and associated lab spaces, including weekly cleaning of these areas by checklist procedure.
- Assists with projects as needed, EX: rain garden maintenance, support of student learning through various academic programs, and activities, etc.
- Assist with science print jobs upon request.
- Creates labels, forms and other simple documents and materials.
- Assist with inventory and maintenance of ERS/Outdoor Living Laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Notifies the Lab Supervisor of supply needs
- Must possess the ability to work independently for short periods of time.
- Reports potential safety hazards to the ERS/Outdoor Living Laboratory Supervisor, science chair, and division dean.
- This is an entry level position; the ideal candidate will receive internal training, and opportunities for external professional development. This includes delivery through video, webinars, and general exposure to OSHA and Environmental issues/problem solving that occur with this position.
- Some flexibility is required as occasional weekend events occur within the Outdoor Living Laboratory.

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for managing the operation and inventory of a scientific academic laboratory. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.Under the direction of the Science Lab Supervisor, the Academic Lab Coordinator is required to prepare and manage materials for use in science laboratories, to promote and present safety to coworkers and students, and to maintain and secure laboratory equipment/classrooms/laboratories and inventory.
Essential Duties
Salary $12.50 per hour
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of scientific subjects such as environmental science, botany, geology, hydrology, remote sensing, landscaping, basic carpentry skills, will be considered. Knowledge of governmental safety regulations or willingness to obtain OSHA hour (preferred) card credentials.

The worker uses chemicals, herbicide, dyes, etc., under direct supervision of supervisor. The worker will weed eat, mow, use loppers, hatchets, and power tools, under supervisor's direct supervision. We occasionally must move or remove wildlife from places they shouldn't be, such as spiders, snakes, and various mammals and birds.

Required Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
Preferred Qualifications
Willingness to obtain OSHA hour (preferred) card credentials.
