Position Details
The Department of Communication within the College of Arts & Letters at The University of Tampa seeks a dynamic candidate with diverse teaching expertise for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor appointment beginning August 15, 2024.
The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, which is a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area. UT reflects this vibrancy; with 24 consecutive years of enrollment growth UT boasts 260 student organizations, a multicultural student body from 50 states and more than 100 countries, and "Top Tier" ranking in U.S. News and World Report.
This visiting position has a teaching load that is 4 courses (16 credit hours) per semester over two 15-week semesters per academic year. The ideal candidate is an excellent teacher who holds a Ph.D. or terminal degree with teaching/research interests primarily in Communication & Speech Studies and Professional Communication. This line is a non-tenure track position.
Qualified applicants with interests in relevant sub-specialties are encouraged to apply (advanced public speaking, business communication, argumentation, organizational communication, strategic communication, instructional communication, group communication, interpersonal communication, and/or communication research methods). The faculty member will contribute to basic courses in the undergraduate degree in Communication & Speech Studies with the potential to teach in the graduate program in Professional Communication. Instructional faculty are teacher-scholars informed by their area of study when teaching and mentoring students. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
This colleague will be joining faculty in an expanding Department of Communication and College of Arts and Letters. This new team member will be relied upon to support the growth and diversity of our flourishing program. This position is in beautiful Tampa, Florida. The University of Tampa prioritizes face-to-face (FtF) course delivery. Salary and benefits are competitive. The committee will review applications and conduct the first round of interviews via Zoom. The final round interviewing will take place on campus.
