    Brief Description

    The Director of Professional Affairs will partner with the Vice President and CGPA Leadership to execute the CGPA agenda, providing strategic advice, planning, and executing of CGPAs advocacy priorities. The Director will also manage the programs and activities of the State Society Relations Program and serve as the principal. The Director will work with the Vice President to develop, manage and oversee the RUs budgets, as well as goals and objectives for the functions under direct management. The Director will advise and support the Vice President in the management of the RU and directly manage the operations of the Washington office.

    Specific Duties

    Execute the CGPA agenda providing strategic advice, planning, organizing to advance the CGPAs advocacy priorities. Partner with VP in matters related to internal staff communication and engagement and external organizational relationship cultivation. Plan and execute all Council Meetings and facilitate interim CGPA decision-making by CGPA Executive Committee. Lead RU staff planning for CGPA programming at the Pathology Leadership Summit and the CAP Annual Meeting. Advise CGPA on CGPA strategic partnerships with State Pathology Societies, the American Medical Association and National Pathology and Laboratory organizations and execute its agenda and priorities and through strategic advice, planning, organizing, enabling and for optimal efficiency and effectiveness.

    Manage the state society relations program including day-to-day engagement with state pathology societies, planning for official CAP leadership visit and presentations to state pathology societies, four quarterly meetings of the State Pathology Society Presidents, the programming at the Pathologists Leadership Summit and the CAP annual meeting for the State Society Presidents, execution of the seven board-approved initiatives to support State Pathology Societies. Serve as principal staff support to the State Pathology Society Workgroup.

    Manage the CGPAs engagement with the American Medical Association which includes which includes identifying, developing, and implementing strategies to leverage CAPs relationship with the AMA in order to secure support for the Colleges advocacy agenda. Manage day-to-day engagement with the AMA on AMA policy and advocacy requests. Direct the planning and staffing support for CAP activities for the two national meetings of the AMA, ensuring effective support for the Pathology Section Council of the AMA and the CAP Delegation to the AMA.

    Manage the CGPAs engagement with the National Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Organizations which includes identifying, developing, and implementing strategies to leverage these relationships in order to secure support for the CAPs advocacy agenda. Plan and execute annual CGPA Meeting with National Pathology Organizations (NPOs) to identify joint advocacy priorities and maintain ongoing contact between CGPA and NPOs to facilitate joint advocacy efforts. Manage CAP ongoing engagement with the Clinical Laboratory Coalition (CLC) on joint advocacy.

    Ensure effective partnership with HR to facilitate culture building activities and events for the RU.

    Advise and support VP in management of RU and the DC office, including implementation of all enterprise initiatives that impact the RU such as the Diversity Equity and Inclusion, the Employee Engagement Survey and Action Planning, Employee Recognition Program, Information System upgrades that impact the RU such as Higher Logic, etc. Serve as primary point of contact with Governance, Finance, Human Resources Department, Information Services, and Shared Services. Manage the day-to-day operations of the Washington Office, including ongoing engagement with Building Management and any associated vendors that support the DC office. Plan and execute all RU wide events. The Director will develop processes, tools, and training to support a deep and thorough knowledge of operations, financials, RU onboarding and processes. Support VP in shaping a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive (DEI) culture within the RU team.

    Knowledge/Skills Required/Preferred

    General:

    + Highly self-motivated and able to work collaboratively in a diverse work environment with CAP members and staff.

    + Have a track record of successfully developing and operationalizing projects, helping develop strategy, communications and assisting with the execution of new initiatives in their organization.

    + Strategic thinker with strong customer service, interpersonal and collaboration skills.

    + Successfully managed complex, emerging projects and met critical deadlines.

    + Appreciates and understands cultural differences effectively to foster an inclusive environment that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

    + Understanding of, and experience with, departmental financial management and budgeting.

    Technical:

    + MS Office (Advanced level)

    Education/Experience

    Education:

    + Bachelors degree required; advance degree preferred.

    Experience:

    + Minimum 5-7 years of experience supporting and interacting with C-level executives, including Board of Directors.

    + Exceptional skills in the areas of interpersonal interactions, professional discretion, confidentiality, and accountability.

    + High degree of initiative and strategic problem solving.

    + Outstanding communication skills including written and verbal. S/he will be very skilled and comfortable presenting his/her ideas to executive teams and groups of various sizes and constituents.

    + Project management experience and negotiation skills.

    + Strategic and financial analysis skills.

    + Market research experience, a plus.

    + Knowledge of the CAP and key stakeholders desirable but not essential.

    Additional Criteria

    This is a director-level, full-time position located in the Washington, DC office.

    + Less than 15% travel and includes weekends.

    + Travel to state pathology society meetings as needed.

    + Travel to AMA annual and interim meeting as needed.

    + Travel to CAP Annual Meeting.
