- Implement positive behavior interventions that support student progress by reinforcing positive behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques, and redirecting inappropriate behaviors.
- Mentor, train, and guide staff in the use of appropriate behavior interventions and techniques to support student student progress.
- Model and teach necessary skills to students in the areas of self-regulation, communication, coping skills, and social-emotional learning to successfully transition to other educational, community, or vocational settings.
- Develop relationships with students and staff by being visible and present in classrooms and student spaces.
- Work cooperatively with all members of a multi-dicipainry team. Maintain communication with the administrators, students, parents/guardians, and other staff members concerning student progress.
- Observe students in various educational environments, consult and provide recommendations on behavior assessments and support plans, adapt and/or modify materials, collect data to evaluate student progress.
- Compile, record, and analyze data to inform programming and support student success directly related to behavior.
- Use flexible thinking and adaptability to address student needs and respond calmly and maintain effective communication during high-stress and crisis situations.
- Perform restrictive procedures (physical holds and seclusion) when necessary following district policy, state and federal laws.
- Work closely with the school social worker and administration to develop a process for mental health referrals that is accessible and inclusive to all students and staff. Complete mental health diagnostic assessments when necessary.
- Participate and attend relevant meetings, trainings and committees as assigned within the scope of job responsibilities.
- Qualified as a Mental Health Professional under the requirements of the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS).
- Bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences or a related field with 2,000 hours of clinical supervision.
- Current MN Licensure in one of the following areas preferred: Psychologist, Professional Counselor, Social Worker, Child and Family Therapy or related field.
- Ability to work with diverse populations with empathy and a non-judgmental approach.
- Experience providing effective support to children, adolescents, and young adults with significant social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.
- Guide and assist individuals and groups with implementing positive behavior interventions and supports.
- Obtain Handle With Care (HWC) certification in both verbal and physical intervention techniques and implement restrictive procedures following district policy, state and federal laws.
- Prior experience in Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) preferred, or willing to obtain training.
- Basic technology skills, ability to work with computers and use email, etc.
- Develop strong working relationships and effective collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams including staff, parents, and community providers.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds weight independently, and up to adult-size body weight with two-to-three-person lift.
- Ability to support a student's full body weight up to adult size.
- Frequently requires standing, walking, lifting, bending, leaning, and repetitive motions.
- Occasionally requires sprinting/running, sitting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Ability to tolerate sudden jarring movement.
- Occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may require wearing personal protective equipment.
- Ability to perform essential job functions in moderately noisy locations.

Position Overview:
Mid-Stated Education District is seeking a qualified Mental Health Professional to join our team. This position guides the implementation of positive behavior supports in an educational setting for students with significant social-emotional and behavioral needs. You will collaborate with education teams to develop positive behavior interventions and behavior support plans, teach and model appropriate coping skills, the use of de-escalation techniques, and reinforce positive student behaviors.
