***: The Electric Distribution Designer is a type of project coordinator for residential and commercial new or existing construction projects that require electric service. The Designer consults with external parties such as customers, contractors, municipal and state officials, business and utility representatives to assess customer and project requirements such as architectural or engineered plans.


PRIMARY DUTIES


Utilizes computer software to design and write electric distribution and service facilities for customer's projects; electric service facilities (poles, wires, transformers, etc.) Provides the necessary details to ensure timely scheduling and completion of work.

Maintains a working knowledge and adherence to the rules and provisions of company environmental policies, Design Standards, and Safety Manual in the design of facilities.

Operates a company vehicle safely and respectfully in all terrains and weather conditions. Wears required Personal Protective equipment and clothing as required by company policy.

Interfaces with the appropriate departments to ensure the proper design and efficient coordination of information for distribution projects.

Coordinates customer projects and project requirements with the Scheduler and Electric Operations Supervisors. Monitors and provides accurate need dates for all on going assigned projects.

Supports the needs of the customer or company by performing, as appropriate, site visits, and consultations, and providing documentation, estimates, and designs for new Residential and Commercial/Industrial services, relocations and upgrade projects.

Prepares designs and supporting documentation for additions and changes to the Company electric system.


Actively participates championing customer projects scheduling needs via Teams meeting weekly Planning and Scheduling meetings; in person as required at the area work center.

Works voluntary and mandatory storm restoration and emergency restoration assignments. This may require driving the company vehicle assessing damage and reporting it via mobile computer and phone devices. This involves long shift hours sometimes for multiple days until power is restored to all customers.


Listens to and understands the external customers such as homeowners, general contractors, electricians, architects, engineers, city officials, as well as internal customers within Eversource.

Anticipates customer needs and proactively manages the workload.

Is well organized, responsive and works with a sense of calm and sense of urgency to meet the customer's needs.

Is motivated to provide excellent customer service.


Uses Bluebeam or similar software to create documentation for crews to build the job, and for the mappers to create GIS map updates.

A team player who helps in the training of Electric Distribution Designers in the job progression.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Education/Experience

Associate degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Electricity or similar program, or 2 years of combined education and related experience.


Experience - Successful completion of on-the job training of an Electric Distribution Designer 3 which normally takes 18 months, or equivalent level of related work experience.

(A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology meets the experience requirement)

Knowledge/Skills

  • A Working knowledge of electrical distribution system and construction standards and techniques.
  • Capable of accurately interpreting blueprints and company circuit maps
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective computer skills.
  • Must successfully pass the EEI Tech Test.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code as it pertains to Eversource service requirements. Knowledge of the National Electric Code as it pertains to service installations and customer requirements, and knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code as it pertains to the Eversource distribution system.
  • Must hold a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

The salary range for this position starts at $38.06/hourly and progresses in accordance with the union contract. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.
