- Serve as Geotechnical Engineer on large complex projects. Prepare scope of works, coordinate to conduct field investigations, make field observations, assign tests, perform geotechnical analysis, prepare geotechnical reports, and conduct geotechnical analysis.
- Lead or assist with geotechnical designs, including development of drawings and specifications.
- Responsible for collecting, correlating, and preparing recommendations and conclusions for reports.
- Maintain effective communications internally and externally with client.
- Define tasks to be conducted by others, and provide general supervision, review and approval.
- Review and perform quality checks on reports developed by other geotechnical engineers to ensure consistency, and quality.
- Investigate new areas of technology or new applications of existing techniques.
- Keep the project team abreast of all project activities, responding promptly to needs, problems, or requests. Evaluate and analyze design decisions to ensure objectivity, soundness of design, and impact of those decisions on schedule, budget, and needs.
- 5+ Years' experience in geotechnical engineering
- Education - degree in Engineering (minimum); in Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Engineering (preferred).
- Excellent communication skills – both technical writing and oral.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a project team and oversee excellent quality of work.
- Experience with soft soils is strongly desired.
- Experience with geotechnical analysis software (such as GeoStudio, RocScience, PLAXIS, MSEW, Ensoft programs, gINT, etc.).
- Registered with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers or capable of obtaining license in less than six months.

Freese and Nichols, Inc. (FNI) is currently searching for a highly motivated, well-rounded Geotechnical Engineer in our Water Resources Design Division.
Candidate will be responsible for performing and leading the analysis, design, and preparation of geotechnical reports, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
The Candidate will work independently as well as work in teams of professionals and technicians in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Georgia, and North Carolina. Previous geotechnical experience with dams and levees is strongly desired. Interest and ability to manage projects and coach staff is also strongly desired. The position involves client interaction and a commitment to client service. The position also encompasses business development activities, including proposal preparation, client visits, and marketing activities.
