Family and Community Engagement Liaison

Academy of Computer Science & Engineering Middle School
The Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) recognizes the importance of families and the community as partners in education.

The Liaison would serve to engage families to work with the school to build on current school strengths, make decisions regarding improvements, and foster a culture of community where all stakeholders work together to fulfill the mission and goals of the school.

Essential Functions
Facilitate and participate in workshops/meetings/community events for the purpose of receiving and or presenting information.

Attendance Recruitment Fairs.

Facilitation of evening meetings and activities which will require individual to accommodate a flexible schedule.

Engage with community partners.


Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (parents, community agencies, students, teachers) for the purpose of providing information and or direction.

Assist in organizing parent committees/family meetings/educational classes for program participants.

Collaborate with school staff to support families from diverse backgrounds (including non-English speaking families).


Assist in recruiting parents as volunteers within the school for the purpose of increasing parent participation in school activities and in their child's education.

Provide documented updates for the purpose of grant reporting.

Disseminate information to administration and staff of school.

Assist in organizing or decision making regarding fundraising opportunities to benefit the student and family school community.


Equipment

Uses standard office equipment and technology such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and phones provided by the district, in accordance with district policy.


Travel Requirements

Travels by foot, city bus, or other means to participate in field experiences in the community with students and staff; home visits to families as needed.

Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Effective communication with all members of the school community including families and colleagues

Organize and coordinate work independently and collaboratively with colleagues and partners

Establish and maintain working relationships with others contacted in the course of work


Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments, as well as through field experiences in the community.

Education
Degree in human services, education, or related field preferred.

Experience
Job related experience with similar levels of responsibility.

Experience working with diverse population.
