    rPlanet Earth consists of a team of passionate recycling and packaging experts dedicated to one common goal – closing the loop on single-serve PET material through recycling and production of high-quality post-consumer recycled packaging solutions. rPlanet Earth is an innovative packaging company reusing curbside-recycled, post-consumer plastics as a feedstock to produce the highest quality products with the lowest carbon footprint.

    Through our disruptive approach, we operate the first of its kind vertically integrated recycling and packaging production plant in North America supplying end-users in numerous product markets.

    Job Purpose

    The Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for assisting the EH&S Manager in administration, leadership and oversight of all activities related to the health, safety, and environmental programs in accordance with OSHA, federal, state, and rPlanet Earths' policies and procedures. Work with Project Managers and Functional Areas to ensure employee safety and environmental compliance.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Participates and supports the development, implementation and maintenance of an Environmental Health and Safety Management System that conforms to internal and external standards and requirements.
    • Assist in developing and deploying programs for the prevention and control of environmental health and safety risks, including compliance with air permits, construction permits, solid and hazardous wastes, wastewater operations, release notifications and all environmental reporting requirements.
    • Participates in review of projects that involve proposed modification of any existing process, equipment, or material as well as proposed introduction of any new process, equipment, or material to ensure compliance with all general environmental health and safety rules as well as air pollution control, storm water management, RCRA, or other such permitting requirements.
    • Conducts site wide environmental, health and safety audits and develops appropriate corrective actions, communicates results, and follows up on issues or concerns through completion.
    • Facilitate incidents investigation and root causes analysis together with management team.
    • Administer the site's Hazard Communication program, including maintaining up to date SDS's, effective identification of all chemicals, chemical inventory and related training and education programs.
    • Manage the site's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Program, work clothing and safety equipment programs according to company standards and operating budget.
    • Perform Job Safety Analysis (JSA); Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) surveys.
    • Develop and coordinate plant health and safety education and training programs.
    • Manage and review loss histories and OSHA Log summaries to identify trends and make recommendations to reduce and eliminate workplace hazards. Communicate adverse trends to Management.
    • Manage Workers Compensation Program by assisting in investigations, case management, restriction interpretation, return-to-work initiatives, and tracking LWD/LTI with cost to company.
    • Assist with conducting the Company safety committees.
    • Perform data entry and assist with recordkeeping/filling of required safety documentation.
    • Prepare EHS communications, metrics, and reports.
    • Track and communicate EHS performance metrics including goals and the core processes (i.e. audits, events, training, etc.).
    • Assist with supporting the site Security Program to ensure site safety is met.
    • Responsible for compliance with food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements.
    • Adhere to applicable prerequisite programs (PRP) per HACCP requirement.
    • It is the responsibility of every employee including temp workers to immediately report to Management the discovery of contamination in any area of the production facility that constitutes a risk to product and/or personnel safety.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
    • Minimum of 4 years in a manufacturing industry or related environment.
    • Experience in California EHS regulatory requirement
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, planning and organizing teamwork using influencing skills and to build relationships within a matrix environment.
    • Good skills in planning & coordinating, communicating & influencing, achieving milestones, resolving issues.
    • Able to work in a cross functional and multinational environment; culturally aware.
    • Strong writing and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Good attention to detail with ability to problem solve.
    • Strong knowledge of EHS, Management Systems and Behavior Based Safety principles.
    • EHS program training and development experience within a Manufacturing setting.
    • Environmental sustainability knowledge.

    Qualifications

    • Degree preferred, high School Diploma or equivalent certification.
    • Minimum 4 + years of experience working in Safety and Occupational Health field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
    • Knowledge of local, state, and federal rules and regulations; Cal OSHA, OSHA, CUPA, SCAQMD.
    • Possess a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.

    Work Environment

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with exceptions to the recycling side.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.

    Salary range

    The anticipated hourly range for this position is $70K-90K annually and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, recent years of experience and education level, as well as the specific position's business needs, scope and level.
