THE POSITION:


Are you the type of person who wants to help people to rise above their mistakes? The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking Corrections Community Center Monitors whose primary purpose is to provide care, custody, control, monitoring, and supervision of the re-entrant population housed at a state-operated Community Corrections Center (CCC), and to assist other staff in facilitating and monitoring the changes necessary for the offender's successful completion of the program for re-entry back into the community.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:


Duties for this position include maintaining a daily activity log, observing re-entrant behavior, and conducting searches of common areas for contraband.

In addition, you maintain and inventory re-entrant prescription medications, security equipment, tools, toxic chemicals and housekeeping supplies, maintain the sign-in and sign-out register for all re-entrants and visitors, and control re-entrant and visitor movement within the center.


Other duties include conducting new re-entrant orientation to the CCC which includes reviewing DOC and CCC policies, rules, and regulations; providing information on availability of public services; making room assignments; and assigning housekeeping duties.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Fulltime employment, 40hour work week
  • Work hours: Community Corrections Centers are staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Salary:_ _**The beginning salary for this position is $38,348 annually (before taxes).


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:


QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Requirements:


  • Must be able to work in Wernersville, Pennsylvania.
  • Ability to work different shifts or irregular scheduled hours.
  • Ability to successfully complete 3 weeks of classroom training at the DOC Training Academy in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):


  • Two (2) years of experience performing public safety or security work.
(Examples of qualifying experience include, but are not limited to:
public safety or security work involving protection of persons and/or property and maintaining required security through enforcement of rules, regulations and laws; public safety or security work in a correctional setting, juvenile or adult development/detention center, law enforcement entity, or military security experience).

  • One (1) year of work experience providing direction/guidance to individuals.
(Examples of qualifying work experience include, but are not limited to:
performing as a lead worker or supervisor assigning and evaluating work tasks, providing informal counseling, or giving orders in the Military).
