    Coding Team Lead - Revenue Cycle

    Assists inthecoordinationofdailycoding workflows and activities amongst CMC'sfacility codersto maximizeefficienciesandreimbursement opportunities.Assistsinprovidingmentorship, ongoing training,education,auditing,andsupport ofallfacilitycodersatCatholicMedicalCenter.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

    Under thegeneral direction oftheExecutive Director ofRevenueCycle, andthedirect guidance ofthe FacilityCodingManagerandwithinestablished policiesandprocedures, theincumbent performsthe following functions:

  • CollaborateswiththeFacilityCoding Manager oninterviewing,selection andtheorientation process forallfacility codercandidatesandhireswithinCMC.
  • Ensuresregulatorycompliance byremaining up-to-date withfederalandstatecodingregulations. Sharesthisknowledge withmanagementandallcoders inordertocollaborativelyincorporate necessarychangestoprocessestoachieveadherencetoregulations
  • 3.Collaborateswithmanagement todevelop educational programmingforfacility coderswhile simultaneouslymotivatingthemtoretainahighdegreeofcodingaccuracy.

    4.Participatesinperiodic codinganddocumentationaudits(bothinternal andexternal)foraccuracy and compliance,andusestheresultstoidentifytrendsorvariances incoding thatrequire additional training tocorrect andeliminate.

    5.Stayscurrent onany regulationsorprocesses relatedtotheimplementationofICD-10specific trainingandsharesthisknowledge withallcoders.

    6.Monitors workqueuevolumes andensures accurate andtimely coding ofallhospital encounters accordingtoestablishedtimeframes,policies,andprocedures.Maintainstheirowncodingwork queue accurately andtimely

    7.Collaborates withtheCoding Manager tocoordinate coding of both inpatient and outpatient services by adjusting staff patterns and workflowsas needed toensure timely coding of all services at CMC

    8.Withthedirection oftheFacilityCoding Manager,orinthE1ir absence, assists withfacilitating the department'snecessaryreportsaswellasallactivitiesinvolved withthemonthendclosing of accounts.

    9.Provides recommendations to management about potential workflow improvements and adjustments toprocesses,policies, orprocedures\toincrease efficiency and accuracy ofcodingpractices.

    10.CollaborateswiththeISdepartmentforallsoftwareupdatesrelatedtocodingforhospitalencounters.

    11.Takes an active role inproject or process implementationand monitors staff compliance and achievementofrelatedgoals.

    12.Providesfeedbackasappropriateonoverallperformanceandworkethicofhospitalcodingstaffas well as addresses posed questions or concerns from coders, clinicians, or other related departments.

    13.Maintainsestablishedpoliciesandprocedures,objectives,qualityassessmentandsafetystandards.

    14.Collaborates withthe Revenue Cycle Nurse Auditor as well asthebilling office toreview coding denials andbilling editstoprevent futuredenials andlostrevenue.

    15.Provides outstanding services to all customers, fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility throughimprovementandinnovation.

    16.Reviews clinical documentation in order to assign diagnostic andprocedural codes for inpatient and outpatientmedicalrecordsaccordingtotheappropriateclassificationsystem

    17.Ensures accurate, timely, and appropriate assignment of ICD-10, CPT/HCPCS,and APC codes for thepurposes ofbilling, internal andexternal reporting, research, and compliance withregulatory and payerguidelines.

    18.Acts asaliaison for coding toancillary departments,administration,andphysicians by answering questionsorprovidingsupportandattendingmeetingsasissuesarise.

    19.Abidesbythestandardsofethicalcodingandadherestoofficialcodingguidelines.

    Education:


    •FormalcourseworkinICDandCPTcodingandmedicalterminology

    Experience:


    •5ormoreyearsofoutpatient andinpatientcombinedcodingexperience


    •CurrentstatusofaFacilityCoder Illwithinthedepartment


    •Working knowledgeofICDand CPT coding classificationsystems; coding forthirdparty payers,includingCMSguidelinesandreimbursementcompliance;HIPAA,JCAHO,andother compliance requirements


    •Musthaveexcellentcommunication,projectmanagement,teambuilding,andleadershipskills.


    •ExcelandWord experience

    Licensure/Certification:


    •CodingCertificationrequired,suchasaCCS, CIC,COC
