    HELP DESK TECHNICIAN I/II - Metro - 014

    This regular, full-time recruitment closesat 5:00 PM on May 20, 2024.
    Level I: $ $30.88 Hourly
    Level II: $ $34.11 Hourly

    DEFINITION:

    Under general supervision, provides computerized help desk system support; operates computers and related peripheral equipment.

    DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
    This class is distinguished from the Network Technicians and Technology Support Specialists in that its primary task is to be the first line of assistance for callers to the Help Desk. This class series is distinguished from the Programmer/Systems Analyst series in that the latter design, recommend, and build automated information systems.

    Essential Functions
    • Responds to user requests for hardware and software assistance by operating a computerized help desk system.
    • Resolves routine problems; dispatches more difficult problems to appropriate support resource.
    • Follows up with customers to ensure they received resolution to their problem.
    • Assists with the development of Help Desk and customer service procedures and protocols to enhance customer service.
    • May be assigned to other functional areas within the Court Technology division.
    • May plan, prepare and deliver or facilitate training for Court personnel on software applications.
    • Performs other job-related duties as required.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Education & Experience:
    Level I: Completion of thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter units from an accredited college or university with course work in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or closely related field AND six (6) months of related experience;

    OR
    One (1) year related work experience.

    Level II: Completion of sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units from an accredited college or university with course work in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or closely related field AND two (2) years of related experience.

    OR

    Three (3) years related experience, one of which must have been in an administration of justice environment;

    OR

    One (1) year as a Help Desk Technician I at the Kern County Superior Court.

    Qualifying experience must have been within the last five (5) years. Any combination of education and experience may be qualifying.

    Miscellaneous Requirements:.
    A valid Class "C" California Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.

    Knowledge of:computer hardware and software to determine the best course of action for help desk calls; Windows, Microsoft Office Professional Suite; various peripheral computer equipment, including printers.

    Ability to:diagnose routine problems with office computer systems; establish and maintain effective working relationships; organize work effectively; learn other functional areas within the Court Technology division.
