    Description

    Job Description and Duties

    Under the supervision of a Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the Agricultural Technician I (Seasonal) is responsible for participating in activities related to the prevention and spread of Pierce's Disease and the glassy-winged sharpshooter. This position is within the Pierce's Disease Control Program of the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The incumbent must establish and maintain effective working relationships, work well with others, work independently, take direction, and meet assigned deadlines.

    • Prioritize and establish work routines to deploy insect traps in citrus areas and selected crops. Utilize a state vehicle to monitor GWSS activity.
    • Inspect insect traps bi-weekly for GWSS and other pests in a designated territory using a state vehicle.
    • Implement field survey techniques in agricultural areas to detect GWSS infestation and activity promptly.
    • Recognize GWSS and other pests under quarantine to identify potential infestations and coordinate responses.
    • Recover and sort GWSS traps at citrus orchards for screening.
    • Perform additional duties as requested to control GWSS and Pierce's Disease spread.
    • Provide technical assistance as directed by Supervisors at PDCP Arvin Field Station.

    Working Conditions

    This role involves primarily outdoor work in agricultural field and nursery locations under various weather conditions. The incumbent inspects insect traps daily, operates a state vehicle, and may work alone. They will experience various temperatures, moisture, humidity, and noise levels while traversing different terrain.

    Incumbents may work with pesticides after the restricted-entry interval.

    Special Requirements

    The incumbent must maintain a valid CA Driver's License and a safe driving record to operate a state vehicle. A safe driving record is free from certain violations within the past two years.
