As a Design Engineer, you will design the best-in-class bicycle frames, components and accessories from concept through to detailed, production-ready designs.
You will manage multiple bike projects as part of the collaborative engineering team and work with the design, testing and product management team.
We are looking for someone with a background in mechanical engineering and understands the complexities of mountain bikes. This role is based in Aliso Viejo, California at our headquarters.WHAT DOES YOUR DAY JOB LOOK LIKE?
Develop new, best-in-class bicycle frames from initial concept through to detailed, production-ready drawings
Develop original concepts that can help provide a competitive advantage
Contribute to product advancement through the development or adaptation of technology outside of our current capabilities
Design class A surfaces using CAD software to create visually compelling products
Design frame prototypes for field and lab testing
Perform stress analysis using FEA
Perform basic Engineering calculations
Perform mechanism analysis using advanced CAD tools
Perform assembly tolerance analysis
Perform preliminary component cost analysis
Maintain product quality through the use of rigorous Engineering practices
Interpret lifecycle test results and make adjustments to part design or manufacturing process
Collaborate directly with overseas vendors on part and tool design
Complete project work accurately with a minimum of foreseeable design or engineering-related issues
Create engineering drawings, release drawings to vendors for review, revise drawings based on vendor feedback
Evaluate sample parts for quality and performance and communicate any necessary changes to the vendor
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
2+ years working as a Design Engineer
Experience working with overseas vendors
An intimate knowledge of part design for a range of manufacturing processes specifically: injection molding, extrusion, machining, forging and hydroforming
A working knowledge of carbon fiber composite structures. Ability to develop efficient net part shapes, read lay-up sheets and
troubleshoot lay-up issues, bond joint design, insert design
Experience building and testing prototypes
Advanced 3D surfacing skills
Ability to create, appropriately dimension and tolerance engineering drawings
Ability to perform assembly tolerance stack analysis
Experience with FEA. Ability to combine real-world knowledge with test lab results to help validate an FEA model
Experience in the bicycle or outdoor industry is preferred
A basic proficiency with hand and machine tools
Ability to work with other members of the design team and use feedback in a constructive way
Available to work at the Aliso Viejo office a minimum of two days per week to review prototypes and participate in in-person design reviews
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, comprehend, and explain documents in English. Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, in English.

SALARY RANGE:
This compensation package will be dependent on experience, qualifications, industry experience and the interview with a potential range of up to $90,000 - $100,000.
