    Job Description

    Reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic and Bar Success, the Director's primary responsibilities will be to: (1) manage the day-to-day operations of the law school's Office of Academic and Bar Success; (2) design and implement strategies and programs for students' academic success in law school and (3) design and implement strategies and programs for graduating students' success on the bar exam.

    The Director may teach academic success and bar readiness courses depending on the needs of the College of Law.
    Qualifications
    JD degree from an


    ABA
    accredited law school, required.
    Bar admission through bar examination in at least one US jurisdiction.
    A minimum of three years' experience in legal academic/bar support, required.
    Five plus years' experience in legal academic/bar support, preferred.
    Teaching experience, preferred.
    High level of organization, flexibility, sound judgment, and interpersonal skills, required.
    Strong written and verbal communications skills, required.
    Large group and small group presentation ability, required.
    Legal practice experience, preferred.
    Ability to maintain confidentiality pursuant to


    FERPA
    and other regulations, required.
    Ability to conduct basic statistical analysis, preferred.

    This position requires superior organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and professional oral and written communication skills.

    A demonstrated track record of program development, enhancement and execution and ability to design and implement innovative programs and services with minimal supervision or input from supervisors.

    Demonstrated ability to work closely and collaboratively with a diverse student body and faculty.
    Experience in program planning, creating strategies, and implementation.
    Sound judgment and discretion sufficient to build relationships with students and colleagues that foster trust and cooperation.
    Ability to complete tasks in an expeditious and courteous manner.
    Ability to collaborate in order to achieve highly effective outcomes, while also promoting harmony within the office.

    Remain current and knowledgeable about changes to the bar exam, including its content, grading, and administration; monitor bar review courses and programs available to students.

    Serve as first point-of-contact and work with vendors to evaluate and recommend new academic success technology, learning tools and products, and bar related materials.

    Responsibilities

    Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Office of Academic and Bar Success, ensuring consistency of practice and maintenance of optimum service levels.

    Effectively manage departmental budgets within available resources.

    Supervise Academic and Bar Success staff (Assistant Director and Associate Director) by directing, scheduling, providing performance feedback, supporting professional development, and disciplining direct reports, and manage the performance review process.

    Work closely with the Associate Dean of Academic and Bar Success to redesign, implement, and lead a comprehensive Academic and Bar Success Program to maximize student learning and achievement in law school and on the bar exam with a particular emphasis on programming for first generation law students and other underrepresented student populations to support their retention and academic success and first time bar passage.

    Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Academic and Bar Success to recommend curricular initiatives to the faculty, particularly the application of student learning science and proven teaching methods in the law school environment.

    Collaborate with faculty to identify student challenges related to academic success and performance on the bar exam and assist the faculty in identifying and implementing teaching and assessment methods necessary to increase retention and improve bar passage.

    Create teaching and assessment materials for use by the doctrinal faculty.

    Train the faculty on the effective use of released bar exam questions to create law school assessments that accommodate a range of teaching objectives.

    Oversee and manage the academic probation and dismissal process in collaboration with the Academic Standards Committee, Associate Dean of Academic and Bar Success, and Associate Dean for Online Education.

    Serve as the point person for all Student Code of Conduct complaint proceedings. Convene and work with the Faculty Prosecutor and College of Law Hearing Board through case resolution.

    Gather data and prepare reports for the Associate Dean of Academic and Bar Success outlining academic success, retention, and bar passage statistics and recommend appropriate strategies for improving academic achievement, student retention, and bar passage.
