    The Position


    The mission of every Robertson employee is to execute their responsibilities with the #1 goal of saving and protecting the lives of service members across the globe.

    The Electrical Design Engineer design electrical components and systems required for operating aircraft fuel systems, including fuel quantity gauging systems.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Designs electrical components required for operating military and civil aircraft fuel systems including, but not limited to, relay boxes, cockpit control panels, and electrical harness assemblies,
    • Designs both electrical and mechanical aspects of aircraft fuel system components
    • Works with customers to determine qualification requirements
    • Writes test plans; performs tests; writes test reports
    • Responsible for Fuel Quantity Indication (FQI) system designs for both primary and auxiliary fuel systems including but not limited to, probe selection and layout to ensure FQI accuracy requirements are met and the development of fuel strapping tables or algorithms
    • Marginal duties may include the following:Provides support for manufacturing as required including but not limited to designing test hardware for evaluating fuel system electrical components, performing troubleshooting, and developing and preparing Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs);Provides support for engineering activities as required.
    • Adherence to Export Control and Technology Control Plan (TCP) as applicable to job function
    • Adherence to Compliance Plan and Employee Policy Manual

    Electrical Design Engineers II, III, IV and V (in addition to the above):

    • Assists with training and on-the-job learning initiatives for less experienced Electrical Design Engineers
    • Works with senior engineers and management on electrical component and assembly integration into customer equipment
    • Effectively and directly communicates with vendors and customers
    Electrical Design Engineers III, IV and V (in addition to the above):

    • Works with teammates, production staff, and technical staff to ensure proper interpretation and implementation of customer needs into finished products
    • Coordinates the development of new processes and methodologies
    • Supports proposal development activities by providing engineering support to Contracts and Sales departments
    • Performs Risk Management on high profile, high cost, or long lead electrical components
    • Executes preliminary and critical design reviews with teammates to adequately express project requirements
    • Regularly informs and educates stakeholders on new systems, designs, and methodology to ensure proper understanding and execution of designs
    Electrical Design Engineers IV and V

    may be assigned as Project Leads and will assume product development and project management responsibilities for a given set of projects/products; associated duties include but are not limited to:

    • Leading the design and development of a product as well as the execution throughout the life cycle of the product (business development phase to product disposal phase) to include capture, development, test, production, and sustainment
    • Developing and managing to schedules for each project
    • Designing products that meet customer requirements
    • Supporting proposal development activities by developing technical volume sections
    • Developing specifications based on customer requirements
    • Ensuring technical and schedule requirements are met
    • Managing any required test program for the product
    • Responding to internal and external customer questions and requests in a timely fashion
    • Conducting project status meetings and reporting status updates on existing project(s)
    • Leading efforts to reduce product costs
    • Supporting the production and sustainment of the product
    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Education and Experience


    Electrical Design Engineer I:


    A Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

    Previous internship experience in an engineering field is preferred.


    Electrical Design Engineer II:


    A Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience with aircraft electrical design or a closely related field; or a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

    Previous employment in engineering field (commercial, military, or defense engineering) is preferred.

    Electrical Design Engineer


    III:


    A Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience with aircraft electrical design or a closely related field; or a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience with aircraft electrical design or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

    Previous employment in engineering field (commercial, military, or defense engineering) is preferred.


    Electrical Design Engineer IV:


    A Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of thirteen (13) years of relevant work experience with aircraft electrical design or a closely related field; or a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience with aircraft electrical design or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

    Previous employment in engineering field (commercial, military, or defense engineering) is preferred.


    Electrical Design Engineer V:


    A Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of twenty (20) years of relevant work experience with aircraft electrical design or a closely related field; or a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant work experience with aircraft electrical design or a closely related field; or a PhD in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant work experience with aircraft electrical design or a closely related field;; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

    Previous employment in engineering field (commercial, military, or defense engineering) is preferred.

    Professional Qualifications


    Required :

    • Sound understanding of military and/or civil aircraft electrical systems and wiring practices to include 28 Volt DC electrical circuits and 115 Volt AC, 3 Phase, and 400 Hz electrical circuits
    • SolidWorks and AutoCAD 2D and 3D drafting experience.
    • Understanding of application of force, static and dynamic loading, and volumetric and fluid analysis
    • Excellent writing skills; ability to clearly articulate information through writing
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, groups of managers, clients, customers and/or end users
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, Outlook, PowerPoint; and Access as required)
    • Mathematical understanding consistent with the educational requirements
    • Ability to read, write and communicate clearly and effectively in English
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
    • Ability to use various tools to identify and solve problems
    • Strong customer service and company culture/reputation orientation

    Preferred:

    • Experience in designing useful engineering tests
    • Experience with test equipment
    • Ability to apply integral calculus and differential equations
    • Printed Circuit Board design knowledge
    • Basic Programming Knowledge

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit and stand. The incumbent is occasionally required to climb, squat, bend, or kneel.

    The incumbent must occasionally lift or carry a maximum of 50 pounds; as well as push or pull a maximum of 150 pounds.

    This position rarely involves working in a confined space.

    The incumbent will regularly use hand tools including but not limited to wrenches, sockets, drills, screwdrivers, brushes, rollers, rulers, power supplies, volt meters, capacitor testers and calipers.

    The incumbent will occasionally use powered equipment including but not limited to company golf cart. Ability to drive a company vehicle per Employee Policy Manual E.7. Up to 15% domestic and/or international travel is required.

    Work Environment


    While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly exposed to normal office environment, mechanical or electrical parts and occasionally exposed to dirty working conditions, heat or cold ranging between 65 and 100 degree ambient conditions, vapors or fumes, and dust shavings.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate with rarely loud levels (> 85 dB).

    The incumbent is required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including Nitrile or Chloroprene gloves, dust mask, safety glasses, goggles, and hearing protection.

    Safety/Security/Environmental

    • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with OSHA standards.
    • Comply with all Safety policies as outlined by the company standards and local, state and federal laws.
    • In accordance with Robertson Fuel Systems' Arizona Drug and Alcohol Policy, this position is designated as a safety-sensitive position.
