Brown & Brown Insurance is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team in Garden City, NY and this role offers a hybrid schedule along with opportunities for advancement.

The Staff Accountant will perform operational, transactional and technical accounting activities in accordance with established policy, procedures, and objectives.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and yearly financials
Maintain general ledger accounts including but not limited to processing transactions and monthly journal entries.
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
Work closely with Workers Comp claims, underwriting and finance unit to ensure invoices, deposits and adjustments are accurately recorded
Continuously review and develop accounting processes and procedures
Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies.
Support collections and billing process along with inquiries as they arise.
Manage the departments indexing of incoming mail.
Assist with the filing of annual, quarterly, and supplemental statutory financial statements.
Monitor timely cash settlements of reinsurance premiums and reinsurance loss recoverable.
Interact regularly with auditors, actuaries, and investment managers.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Proficient in Microsoft Office
2+ years' experience working in an accounting department.
Experience in the insurance industry preferred.
Ability to learn and effectively utilize internal policy management systems, reinsurance systems (ProCede), and General Ledger/Accounts Payable/Receivable system (Sapiens PTE, Quick Books)
Familiarity with Statutory Reporting is a plus
