    Description

    City and Country School, one of the foremost progressive schools in the country, seeks a Part-Time Science Teacher. This position is approximately 20 hours per week and will start late August, 2024.

    Job Description

    The Science Teacher reports to the applicable Division Director and is an integral part of the C & C faculty. The XIs-XIIIs Science Teacher approaches science instruction with an interdisciplinary approach, finding authentic ways to connect science understandings to students' social studies. Our Teachers bring warmth, patience, and understanding to the classroom every day, encouraging children to learn and grow.

    Responsibilities

    • Encouraging lifelong scientific inquiry and exploration for students
    • Develop, revise, and teach 6th through 8th grade science curriculum using a progressive approach
    • Collaborate with Group Teachers, Specials Teachers, and Division Heads to find ways to integrate instruction with other curricular subjects, namely social studies
    • Maintain an equitable and inclusive learning environment
    • Communicate effectively and establish strong working partnerships with families, students, colleagues, and administrators
    • Manage science budget and materials
    • Organize trips/experiences which support science concepts
    • Write reports and conduct Parent/Teacher Conferences
      • Bachelor's degree in Education, Science Education or related field, Masters preferred
      • 3-5 years working experience teaching science with a progressive approach
      • Developmental knowledge of and experience with elementary aged children
      • Experience developing and revising science curricula with an integrative approach
      • Willingness to work in close collaboration with colleagues and children
      • Familiarity with project-based, experiential teaching and lesson development
      • Commitment to creating a culture of equity and inclusion
      • Effective classroom management skills
      • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
      • Valid First Aid, Adult and Infant CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency
