    Description
    JOB TITLE: Billing Specialist
    DEPARTMENT: Business Office

    GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for handling and monitoring insurance claims for the specified alpha split. Ensuring resolution of accounts by following up on Insurance and Patient Aging. This includes addressing disputes with insurance companies for accurate billing. Also involves assisting with payment posting and adjustments based on the Explanation of Benefits (EOB).

    TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    • Requires prolonged sitting, occasional bending, stooping, and stretching
    • Demanding coordination and manual dexterity for operating various office equipment
    • Normal hearing and eyesight for preparing reports
    • Ability to work independently and handle occasional stress
    • Capacity to lift/carry up to 25 pounds

    TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Office setting with regular interactions with colleagues, patients, physicians, and external parties. Some occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Thorough research and timely resolution of aging, denied, and rejected claims
    • Submission of electronic and paper claims with necessary documentation
    • Comprehensive understanding of EOBs, payer policies, and AHVI processes
    • Adherence to collections and financial assistance program policies
    • Professional communication with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare professionals

    Education:
    • Preferred: Some college or continuing education
    • Minimum: High School diploma

    Experience:
    • Minimum: Two years experience in medical billing focusing on insurance research and claim follow-up

    Certificate/License: Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Coder (CPC) from AAPC preferred
