    Introduction

    The Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services is seeking a talented and motivated individual to serve as the Assistant Director of Crisis Services.

    Job Summary

    The Assistant Director of Crisis Services is an integral member of the Executive Leadership Team, reporting to the Medical Director. This position will be responsible for supervising all Crisis and Emergency operations to ensure program integrity as well as the delivery of high-quality services that meet the fidelity of the model. The Assistant Director will oversee operations and provide strategic direction for the crisis response, crisis stabilization, and crisis prevention activities which are a 24-hours-a-day, 365 days a year program. This position will also provide overall operational management to include staffing oversight, delivery of services, and continuity of care for individuals with mental health, substance use, and developmental disabilities disorders.

    The Assistant Director of Crisis Services will:

  • Lead the implementation and execution of mental health crisis intervention programs, including mobile crisis units, crisis stabilization units and hotline services.
  • Ensure programs meet state and federal regulatory requirements and adhere to best practices in mental health care.
  • Lead workforce planning efforts to include developing and executing staffing strategies, to recruit top talent, timely fill vacancies, and successfully onboard new employees. Manage and assess staff performance in accordance with County policies and applicable law. Provide ongoing professional development opportunities and ensure staff are trained in the latest crisis intervention techniques and trauma informed care.
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Foster strong relationships with local law enforcement, hospitals, schools, community organizations and other stakeholders to coordinate crisis response efforts.
  • Represent the department at community meetings, public forums, and professional conferences.
  • Advocate for mental health awareness and the importance of crisis intervention services within the community.
  • Develop and manage the program budget, ensuring financial sustainability and efficient use of resources. Identify funding opportunities and prepare grant proposals to secure additional program funding.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the safety, quality, and consistency of crisis services.
  • Stay informed of changes in mental health regulations and best practices, and update program policies accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical standards.
  • Provide leadership, administrative oversight, and accountability for the delivery of services.
  • Work with the teams in strategizing, creating, and overseeing plans that will provide the best available support and ensure the health and safety of individuals served.
  • Leverage strategic planning and leadership skills to assess, identify, and present service enhancement opportunities; guide complex and cross-functional initiatives from inception to delivery.
  • Represent the crisis programs; communicate and present program information, performance measures, and recommendations to the MHSADS Executive Leadership Team, the Board of Supervisors, and community stakeholders.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field preferably with advanced coursework in Crisis response and Public Health; five (5) years of related work experience in behavioral health with increasing responsibility including three (3) years in a supervisory or management role, preferably in a government setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must hold a current mental health professional license in the Commonwealth of Virginia: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); or Licensed Clinical Psychology (LCP).
  • Preferred:
  • Previous experience working in a government or public sector community service executive leadership role.
  • Strong communication and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent facilitation skills from multidisciplinary team discussions and involving various external stakeholders in the community.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English) and multi-lingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

  • Must be fitted for N-95 (or similar) mask to safely provide on-site services as needed.
  • Must be eligible for certification as a Certified Preadmission Screening Clinician (CPASC) in accordance with Virginia DBHDS regulations.
  • Crisis response team requirements include wearing a Kevlar vest and participating in Criminal Justice Academy trainings.

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check, credit check, driving record check and negative TB screen/test.
  • Must have a valid drivers license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
